Schultz's wife despaired of curing her hubby of his dreadful drinking habit; that is, until her brother, Chauncie Alcut, an actor, came to visit her unexpectedly. Alcut arrived just before Schultz came home. Alcut is dressed to exactly resemble the tipsy Schultz. He then takes his position behind the frame of the large mirror from which the mirror itself has been removed. When Schultz conceitedly goes to gaze at himself in the mirror, Alcut, his double, greets Schultz with his self-same gestures and characteristics. Then gradually Schultz begins to see in his supposed image changes which he is well aware does not belong to his own personality. Finally these changes become so awfully different that Schultz well imagines he has the D.T's. In terror he rushes to the bedroom raving. While he is hugging Wifie another deception is played on him. He suddenly realizes he is hugging a hideous baboon. It does not take him long to forswear all strong drink, and later, he proves that his oath was a hearty one.
