Rhythmic, poetic and visually excellent
A young man falls into a hallucinatory vision where he is undergoing an initiation ceremony. He walks through doors in fog, pulled by a mysterious force leading him to witness things that he will never forget but always wish to have never seen.

This was part of a series made by advertising company Tomato with FilmFour. The series included Headphone Girl and Sh*t Happens. The aim was to make several films of the same length whose only connection would be a sharp visual style. In other words the films were all to be completely different in substance.

This short continues the focus on visuals set in `Headphone Girl' but adds more meat to the bone and delivers a fuller product. The story doesn't matter but is told well. Sam's constant narration is difficult to follow but sets a rhythmic, poetic pattern to the dialogue. It becomes hypnotic - even when I wasn't paying attention to the words I was still pulled along by the rhythm.

Visually the film is dark and disturbing with some great, if difficult, imagery. It doesn't matter than you don't totally get the significance of what is happening but just being lost in this poetic vision is good enough. It will unsettle you and some bits are a little disturbing, but there's no doubting the imagination.

Again the substance is lacking but it is less noticeable here than in Headphone Girl. The poetic dialogue flows with an irresistible draw like the force that calls to Sam. I became sucked into his vision - unknowing but involved and engrossed none the less.
