documentary with use of actors
This flick from 1978 is very hard to find. It almost never pops up and is over here only available on Greek VHS luckily English spoken. But even then it's really hard to catch a copy, thanks to a friend overseas he was able to send me the real stuff. Was it worth searching, well, it depends on what you expect of this war movie. If you are interested on this cruel battle then I surely recommend it because it starts of with real footage of the battle and it's really gruesome. Back in those days it wasn't on paper what you can do in war and what not, there where no rights for soldiers as for humans. So you see that they attack villages and are killing everybody, kids included. The women are being undressed and raped. you see real footage of heads being cut of and being displayed. Once the movie starts you will follow two brothers in the army. You will see how hard the army was back then even on the front. Due being a battle between Chinese, Japanese and Russians you will see how officers of the Japanese army doing harakiri and beheading each other. But naturally it's not Band Of Brothers but still the red stuff flows and there's a bit low on gore. Somehow you keep attracted even as it clocks in at almost 2 hours. The quality of the reel is not that good, sometimes it's too dark and it has a lot of hue and contrast problems but again, it's made in 1978 in South Korea.
