I suspect this porn takeoff on Conan Doyle's characters is not well-known because the Baker St. Irregulars don't take kindly to mockery. For porn fans, it plays well as a tongue-in-cheek storyline XXX-er.
The DVD box trumpets "shot-on-film" but this is actually a well-lit shot-on-video effort from Stuart Canterbury. He's a prolific pornographer who's lately been mired in the "This Ain't XXX" garbage, but has always had a sense of humor, as in taking on Robin Williams with SNATCH ADAMS.
The gimmick here is that Dr. Emma Watson, Sherlock Holmes' partner in investigating crime, is a woman, well-played by Gina Ryder. This video was released coincidentally just as the real Emma Watson was making her memorable film debut as the HARRY POTTER heroine.
With atmospheric sets, elaborate costuming and even a foggy London street, video gets off to a credible start with Estella (buxom beauty Angelica Sin) beseeching Holmes (Tyce Bune affecting a hoarse voice Christian Bale would love) to help her in a case where her intended groom Cedric (Nick East with a very phony mustache pasted on) has been accused of hanging with strumpets at a brothel on notorious Harlot Hill, causing her patriarch Lord Bolstrom (Kyle Stone) to forbid their marriage.
Holmes is reluctant to take the case, sensing his prospective clients are not being entirely truthful, but Dr. Watson prevails upon him, and the game's afoot.
Canterbury's unusually elaborate and wordy script (a relief after so many improvised porn junkers) has Holmes picking up clues in order to trace the source of the accusations against Cedric's character. Meanwhile, we're treated to an overlong (12 minutes) lesbian sex scene in the bathtub featuring Estella and her comely maid (Lola), who sports natural breasts with pointy nipples.
SPOILERS ALERT:
Watson impersonates a harlot and succeeds in seducing Lord Bolstrom. Ryder reveals a bumblebee tattoo located near her pussy, not a clue but rather an anachronism, as is the safe-sex use of modern condoms in all the boy/girl scenes here. And just when I was starting to believe we really were back in Victorian London (-not).
Mystery is solved when our intrepid duo discover a lookalike stable boy, also played by Nick East of course with a surprisingly convincing cockney accent, who witnessed Lord B having sex with a strumpet in the brothel. The good Lord turned the tables, accusing Cedric of being the guilty party, but has to confess all under Sherlock's grilling, now permitting the marriage.
Having solved the case, Holmes and Watson celebrate with a threesome involving buxom Alexis Amore for a rousing finale. It isn't probable (perhaps for the best) that we'll encounter their like again.
This is enjoyable porn fluff, once again demonstrating that XXX performers can give adequate acting performances if one hands them a decent script and takes some care in the production. Amidst so many nearly identical all-sex junkers ground out during this period, HARLOT HILL deserves to find an audience among fans of storyline porn.
