  • The Powerpuff Girls: Chemical X-Traction is a licensed arena fighter released for the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. The game is similar to Tom and Jerry in Fists Of Furry, and controls the same, except it adds in some improvements.

For the most part, instead of a bland single player mode, you actually get a story mode, where the girls attempt to bake the perfect pie. However, Bubbles adds Chemical X into it, and Mojo Jojo steals it, and gives each of the villains appearing in the game a piece, making them super-powered. Now, the heroic trio must defeat the villains and get back the Chemical X. In the N64 version, it's all text, but the PSX port has FMV cutscenes (complete with a recreation of the show's opening), and with the characters voiced by their respective voice actors from the show.

Now for gameplay, it is the same as Fists Of Furry, as the object is to deplete your opponent's health. The moves are the same, each character can punch, kick, and pick up certain objects in a stage to throw at their opponents or use as a weapon. However, the random power-ups are replaced with beakers filled with Chemical X, which appear on the stage sometimes as well as can be knocked off opponents by hitting them with thrown objects. When a character holds three of these at one time, this will allow him/her to perform a special move, which differs depending on the character you play as. While the addition of the Special Move is a good way to keep things fresh, sadly, it is still bare bones, as this is Fists of Furry, only reskinned with characters and locations from The Powerpuff Girls.

Aside from Story Mode, the game has a Simulator Mode, which is the versus mode. This mode is the only way to play as the villains, as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are the only characters playable in Story Mode. At the start, only the girls, Seduca, Princess Morbucks, and Big Billy are playable, as well as three stages, with the rest requiring you to play through story mode to unlock. However, be prepared, because the AI of the computer player will show no mercy. Even on the easy difficulty, it will go straight to grabbing objects and throwing them, as well as catching you in endless punches and kicks and even jump on you. This can be real bad, as if it gets you caught in a corner, you're pretty much doomed to lose, as while in the hit animation, you cannot move or attack back. In conclusion, despite the addition of a story and special moves, the aggressive AI and the fact the gameplay is pretty much unchanged makes this game X-tremey Bland, and is too hard for the show's target audience of kids.
  • Chemical X-Traction was one of my favorite games for the PlayStation. It was an awesome spin-off of The Powerpuff Girls. It doesn't have enough variety but it has some interesting ways not found in normal fighting video games of the early 2000s. Craig McCracken and Cartoon Network Interactive have really thought this video game through! All the characters have unique moves but with the Powerpuff Girls have extra moves besides laser eyes such as Ice breath for Blossom, Super scream for Bubbles and Tornado for Buttercup. The good thing is that they used all the original voice actors instead of voice doubles while working on the cartoon.
