Uncle Chich Lived On!
After its retirement from the CBC, Uncle Chichimus and Holly Hock moved up the road from Toronto to Ottawa, where for several seasons it was a daily late afternoon show at CJOH that released children and adults alike from the think-alike monotony on the 'public' CBC network in staid Ottawa.
Champ Champain interacted with Uncle Chich and played host, while also playing piano and singing for added entertainment. An extra bonus was a gal who drew pictures of the worm 'Ooogly Wooogly', and narrated her stories as she brought them to life on an easel using only a thick magic marker.
It was all captivating for me as a four or five year old.
My biggest disappointment was the day in grade 1 when I got home from school to find Uncle Chichimus had been pre-empted....by the assassination of President Kennedy coverage.
The whole world changed that day, and marked the beginning of my loss of childhood innocence.
