Outside of the films, they are best friends, with Barrymore stating that she is friends with Sandler’s wife Jackie. While their relationship is platonic, Barrymore had no problem in naming him her best onscreen kiss.

Aloha! The natural beauty of Hawaii has long inspired and captivated filmmakers longing to show off the soaring cliffs and clear blue waters, in addition to the rich Polynesian culture. Many romantic comedies and coming-of-age films have taken advantage of the stirring imagery to evoke paradise, spirit, and dreamy tenderness. But there's tragedy and drama to be found there too, given the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, as well as the many wartime epics that have been made showing Hawaii at its most tragic.
Given the geographic variety of the state, it's no surprise that a diverse range of stories have been told using the islands and its people, and here, we're taking a look at the 10 best films set in Hawaii.

Considering how many different places Hollywood makes movies about, they sure don’t like to leave home very often. Movie filming locations are, like, 80 percent L.A., 15 percent Toronto and a handful of European castles. That means it’s inevitable that locations will get reused, even in wildly different movies.

Drew Barrymore credits 1994’s Western action flick Bad Girls with changing her life at 16 years old.
In a recent episode on The Drew Barrymore Show, the host reunited with co-star Andie MacDowell and the two reminisced about the film (which also featured Madeleine Stowe and Mary Stuart Masterson) about four brothel workers on the lam after a justifiable homicide and who set out in search for a better life in the Wild West.
“When we did Bad Girls, I was 16. I was such a dumbass,” Barrymore said, to which MacDowell responded, “Oh my God, you were so beautiful and so good.”
The Charlie’s Angels star continued, “I always talk about how much it changed my life. If I hadn’t done that film, there’s no way I’d be sitting here right now because it was that film that showed me if you care about something, be involved.

Drew Barrymore is getting candid about her reason for taking a step back from acting.
The actress, 49, who now hosts her daytime talk show The Drew Barrymore Show, opened up about balancing Hollywood and parenthood in AARP the Magazine‘s February/March 2025 cover story.
“I was in my early 40s, and not learning how to be my own healthy, independent individual, how to be the parent I dream to be,” Barrymore explained. “Being other people doesn’t help me figure that out right now. And the long hours of doing films were hours I wouldn’t have with my kids. I wasn’t going to do that.”
The Santa Clarita Diet actress shares two daughters, Olive and Frankie, with her ex-husband, Will Kopelman. Elsewhere in her interview with AARP, Barrymore spoke about what she endured amid her divorce from Kopelman in 2016.

“Hollywood Squares” is back for a new generation. The gameshow, which originally aired in 1966 and has seen several reboots since is back with a new center square: Drew Barrymore.
Executive producer Jesse Collins told TheWrap he wanted to bring back the game show for years, but it wasn’t until longtime fan of the show Barrymore signed on that the project really took off.
“Drew’s Rolodex is insane. Having her in that center square for all 20 episodes just made everybody feel like this is definitely a safe place for me to come and and show my knowledge or lack thereof, and just generally, have fun,” the “Rhythm + Flow” producer told TheWrap.
Collins also joked the show has probably never seen a center square sit in other people’s seats as much as the “50 First Dates” actress. “It’s that need to hug,” he said. Host Nate Burleson...

Adam Sandler's production company, Happy Madison Productions, released a holiday-themed animated film in the early 2000s, and after it bombed, it would be two decades before they worked on another animated project. Happy Madison Productions was founded by Sandler in December 1999, taking its name from two of the actor's most popular movies he co-wrote with Tim Herlihy — Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. Since then, the company has produced over 50 films, mostly comedy live-action projects. However, Happy Madison Productions has also released two animated movies, and they couldn't be more different.
As of the writing of this article, Happy Madison Productions officially has two films in the works — Happy Gilmore 2 and Kinda Pregnant.
Out of Happy Madison Productions' 50-plus movies, some of its most notable stories include Mr. Deeds, Anger Management, 50 First Dates, Click, Grown-Ups, Murder Mystery, and more. Basically, the company's standout films are also Sandler's best movies.

An Adam Sandler horror-comedy franchise is dominating a global streaming chart. Sandler is a five-time Emmy nominee who first rose to prominence as a member of the cast of the long-running NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. He has since become a major comedy star, with his movies Billy Madison (about a wealthy adult man who is forced to return to school) and Happy Gilmore (about a golfer with anger issues) helping his star rise further and providing the name for his production company Happy Madison, which was founded in 1999.
While there are quite a few Adam Sandler movies that have earned Rotten Tomatoes splats, he has become a major commercial success. At the time of writing, his movies have collectively earned more than $5.5 billion, with many original comedies grossing $100 million or more, including 50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer, The Water Boy, Big Daddy, Click, and Pixels. His tenure lasted from 1990 to 1995 and included iconic sketches such as "Opera Man" and "Pepper Boy." Over the course of his career, he has so far been nominated for five Emmys, four of which were for performances on SNL, and one Golden Globe.
Many Adam Sandler movies have been financially successful in spite of earning dismal scores on Rotten Tomatoes. This includes Click ($237.7 million with a 34% score), Just Go with It ($214 million with 19%), 50 First Dates ($198.5 million with 45%) and Big Daddy ($234.8 million with 39%). Drew Barrymore has found her way into a wide variety of horror movies and TV shows, ranging from abysmally bad to hall-of-fame pictures. The latest in a long line of famous Barrymore actors, ever since Drew Barrymore's film debut at the tender age of 5 years old in Altered States, she's been a staple cast in a variety of horror movies. While her filmography expanded to include family-friendly adventures like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and romantic comedies like 50 First Dates, she'd continuously come back to horror films and shows throughout her career.
While many of Drew Barrymore's best films in general are horror pictures, not every scary movie she's starred in has been a success. A few duds have followed her early career, in particular, typically obscure, low-budget horror movies that were able to get away with casting Barrymore before she truly became a household name. The upcoming sci-fi horror movie Affection has found its leads, and the first details about its story make it sound like a darker version of a popular Adam Sandler rom-com. The horror genre continues to go through a great run with sequels, adaptations of other works, and original stories, and the branch of sci-fi horror has been especially popular recently. Movies like M3GAN have reignited interest in sci-fi horror, and there are some exciting movies in development from this branch of horror, among them Affection.

Scream queen Jessica Rothe has joined the cast of a new sci-fi horror movie, Affection, one with a plot vaguely reminiscent of her breakout role in the time loop slasher series Happy Death Day.
Deadline reports that the actress is playing the role of Ellie, who becomes trapped inside a "cyclical nightmare" that causes her memories to frequently "reset," erasing her life with her husband and daughter. Even worse, her real memories are replaced with "vivid memories of a life she's never lived."
In some ways, it sounds like a cross between a lighter rom-com like 50 First Dates and Happy Death Day. It's not quite the same thing as a time manipulation movie where each day repeats itself, but one that could be a lot darker depending on what direction this story takes.
Rothe will star opposite Joseph Cross, the actor best known for his performances in Lincoln and Licorice Pizza.

The 49-year-old actress spoke about her classic film alongside Adam Sandler, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, during her daytime talk show – and revealed there was an original ending that we didn’t see.
The film was not supposed to end in with a happily ever after for main characters Henry and Lucy, as it turns out.

“Something that always sticks in my mind is the original ending of 50 First Kisses, as it was called at the time,” she said. “Yeah, it was a drama set in Seattle. 50 First Dates was originally set in Seattle with a sadder ending. The ending portrays a tragic situation disguised as a happy ending. The original ending would have fixed issues of agency and prompted a positive discussion.
50 First Dates has become one of Adam Sandlers most popular rom-coms, but its original plan had a completely different ending that, although sadder, would have been much better. Six years after their first collaboration in The Wedding Singer, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore teamed up again to star in 50 First Dates. Despite getting mixed reviews, 50 First Dates was a box-office success and has gotten different remakes, and although it has some big flaws, its one of the most popular Adam Sandler rom-coms.
50 First Dates took the audience to Oahu, Hawaii, to meet Henry Roth (Sandler), a marine veterinarian who avoids commitment. One day, he meets Lucy Whitmore (Barrymore), an art...

Drew Barrymore shared on her show that 50 First Dates originally had a dramatic ending, diverging from the heartwarming final version. Originally a Seattle-set drama called 50 First Kisses, Barrymore reveals the first ending ambiguously kept Lucy and Henry in their pattern. Despite its initial dramatic direction, 50 First Dates found success as a romantic comedy, showcasing the chemistry between Barrymore and Sandler.
Drew Barrymore reveals that 50 First Dates originally had a very different ending. While it was not a critical hit, the 2004 romantic comedy film is fondly remembered for its heart, humor, original premise, and strong chemistry between Barrymore and Adam Sandler. 50 First Dates remains one of Sandler's best movies, with its unconventional love story between Lucy Whitmore (Barrymore) and Henry Roth (Sandler) and the happy ending being among its many strengths.
On The Drew Barrymore Show (via Variety), Barrymore discussed how 50 First Dates initially had a dramatically different ending.

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler’s “50 First Dates” is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and the former dropped a surprise revelation on her eponymous daytime talk show by sharing the original ending to the 2004 romantic-comedy classic. Blended is Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore's worst movie. Thankfully, Sandler and Barrymore are open to working together again. The Wedding Singer is the duo's best film.
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore starred in the 2014 rom-com Blended, and given that it is their worst movie together, I desperately need them to make another film so that Blended is not their final one. Sandler and Barrymore have played love interests in three movies over the course of their acting careers, making them a notable duo in Hollywood. Given that they keep on making movies together, it stands to reason that Sandler and Barrymore have a good working relationship, which has resulted in fantastic chemistry and is why many seem to love their onscreen partnership.

The 2005 remake of The Longest Yard boasts a star-studded cast with notable comedians, veteran actors, football players, and wrestlers. Some of the big names included are Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds, Nelly, James Cromwell, William Fichtner, and more, providing laughs and sports elements. Director Peter Segal collaborates with Adam Sandler to bring together a unique collection of stars that adds to the fun and enjoyment of the film.

My Spy The Eternal City Trailer has Dave Bautista chaperone his step-daughter with her class in Rome

Dave Bautista tried his hand at the family comedy sub-genre where tough guys take care of children in the 2020 film My Spy. That film joined the likes of Kindergarten Cop, The Nanny, The Pacifier, The Game Plan and The Chaperone. My Spy would become Prime Video’s third most-watched streaming title of 2020, so a sequel would definitely be in the books. Wait no further as Amazon MGM releases the trailer for My Spy The Eternal City (the title does not include a colon punctuation). The film is set to hit home screens on July 18.

Happy Gilmore 2 will finally pay tribute to Otto by officially mentioning his name in the sequel, after it was cut from the original film. Adam Sandler's timing and clever use of golf as a narrative device made Happy Gilmore a commercial success despite initial critical reception. Allen Covert's character, Otto, should return as Happy's caddie in the sequel and get the justice he deserves.

Lindsay Lohan is looking to take on the legacy of Ann-Margret.
After Lohan first voiced her desire to portray the frequent Elvis Presley collaborator in a biopic, Us Weekly reports that Ann-Margret, 83, has agreed to the project and has been spending time with Lohan in preparation for her portrayal. IndieWire has reached out to Lohan’s representatives for comment, but we did not immediately receive a response.
A source told Us Weekly that Lohan “feels she’s the only one who can play the part” of Ann-Margret, and that Lohan “wants to win an Oscar and an Emmy.” Lohan believes the biopic could “take her career to the next level.”
The actress recently has ushered in her “Lohannaissance” via some Netflix movies, which she’s also produced, and is preparing for the long-awaited “Freaky Friday” sequel — it’s in the works with Jamie Lee Curtis. Lohan recently had a cameo...

Blended is Sandler & Barrymore's lowest-rated film together, receiving only 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite flaws, Blended is not actively bad & highlights the solid chemistry between the stars. The Wedding Singer remains the best Sandler & Barrymore collaboration, showcasing their compatibility.
Blended is one of three movies Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore starred in together and is often regarded as the worst of the lot. While Sandler's films have rarely been critical darlings (with exceptions like Uncut Gems and Punch-Drunk Love standing out more as a result), some have garnered particularly harsh words from critics. This includes Blended, Adam Sandler's movie with Drew Barrymore where the two play recently single parents who find themselves increasingly pushed together during a trip to Africa.
Even when compared to the mixed reception of their prior collaboration 50 First Dates, Blended suffered from several negative critical reviews that focused on the boring and low-key offensive elements of the movie.

Drew Barrymore is reflecting back on 20th Century Fox’s initial reaction to Never Been Kissed.
The actress-producer and talk-show host was joined by Hey, Dude…The ’90s Called! hosts Christine Taylor and David Lascher on Friday’s Drew Barrymore Show, where she recalled how the rom-com marked a big milestone for the actress, as it was the first project made under her own production company, Flower Films.
With her venture behind the camera while also being the film’s star, there was a lot of pressure on Barrymore for the film to succeed.
“Never Been Kissed was very interesting because it was our first official film for Flower Films. And at that time, people were very weary of actors being producers,” she explained. “A lot of it wasn’t necessarily working and it didn’t mean because you’re an actor, you knew how to produce a film and it was about the economics.

For someone who came from a generation of actors ranging from her great, great, great, grandparents from both sides of her family including herself, It’ll be strange if Drew Barrymore‘s children wouldn’t wish to toe the same line.
Having started appearing on TV from as young as 11 months old, Drew would later go on to make a name for herself in the acting industry and it’s quite fitting that her children Olive, 11, and Frankie, 10, would want to do the same at about the same age their mom started if given the opportunity.

Barrymore initially brought up the subject of a Happy Gilmore sequel to her audience, saying, “I want it. I need it.” She continued, “I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison. Update: It looks like Christopher McDonald was right about Adam Sandler working on the script for Happy Gilmore. Sandler’s fave co-star and longtime pal Drew Barrymore confirmed, in a clip from today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, that the sequel is indeed happening. “I want it. I need it. And I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison,” says Barrymore, adding later, “I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process.”
Barrymore famously starred with Sandler in three movies, The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates and Blended. The two have remained close over the years, with Sandman frequently turning up on her show. While he’s mostly focused on drama recently, including the recent Netflix film Spaceman, Happy Gilmore 2 would likely be warmly received by fans, especially if co-stars Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen return.

Besides Adam Sandler’s baggy polo and basketball shorts, there’s something else that people find quite fascinating about him, and that is the impressive box office numbers he holds. Truth be told, he is indeed a pioneer of a certain type of comedy in Hollywood.

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

New Netflix movie Spaceman stars Adam Sandler in a dramatic role on a solo space mission with an ancient arachnid encounter. Spaceman had a limited theatrical release and debuted on Netflix, with a divided critical reception despite an early audience score. The film also features acclaimed actors like Paul Dano and Carey Mulligan, showcasing Sandler's versatility in more serious roles.
The new Netflix movie Spaceman stars Adam Sandler but also features several other highly decorated actors. The latest Adam Sandler movie is quite a deviation from his previous straight-to-Netflix movies such as Murder Mystery (2019), Hustle (2022), and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah (2023). Spaceman stars Sandler as Jakub Prochazka, an astronaut on a solo mission at the edge of the solar system who encounters an ancient arachnid creature in his ship. The new Netflix movie is based on the 2017 novel "Spaceman of Bohemia" by Jaroslav Kalfar.
