There is a lot of imagination and polished gameplay in this video game. You really get invested in this world and all the characters. Even though it is a first instalment, it feels fully fleshed out. I enjoyed all the fun combat.

Tyler_R_Weston1 August 2003I can't believe that I'm the first person to comment on Ratchet & Clank. This is one of the greatest adventurous challenges to land on Earth. Ratchet & Clank is actually a funny, action adventure where you must save the galaxy from the scoundrel, Chairman Drek and his robotic crew. Ratchet & Clank join together to stop this evil madman. This is nothing compared to Jak and Daxter. Ratchet & Clank has everything, it's not too long, there's an enormous set of weapons and gadgets to choose from such as the Blaster, the R.Y.N.O (Rip Ya a New One), the Glove of Doom, etc. Your challenges in the game are surely competitive such as the Alien Queen, the Snagglebeast, Captain Qwuark, and of course, Chairman Drek himself. Your weapons and your strageties help you survive the game and your choice to start over again. My friend beat the game FOUR TIMES!!. I'm getting close to beat it for the first time. My first "owned" video game and my only for now. I'm getting my hands on Ratchet and Clank 2: Locked and Loaded first. It may be difficult at first, but with determination, you'll become pro in no time! Plus, there's a hoverboard race! Ratchet and Clank is all thanks to Insomniac Games. Thank you Insomniac!! Bring on the sequel!! Ratchet and Clank has amazing graphics with amazing environments in many different planets. The fun factor is a 10!! Ratchet and Clank is one of my favorite teams alongside Sora, Donald, & Goofy (Kingdom Hearts).

veldinjoe12 August 2007Ratchet and clank 2002 by insomniac games is by far the greatest electronic game ever made. I think this game is a masterpiece game the special effects are one of of the greatest. the games plot is perfect in every way. The game should of have more award nominations then one golden satellite award for outstanding character. when you are playing the levels in this game it is so detailed ,it is almost like you are really in space and on a different planet.It is also home of some of the coolest video game weapons I have ever seen,It is like making the terminator jealous.Lets get pt this is one of the best games for the ps2. If you are a fan of 3D action platformer games like the jak and daxter series get this game it is spectacular.

smithfranhan7 May 2006probably the best games ever ratchet, a Lombax from planet Veldin finds and small robot (clank) who never abbreviates his speech, they go off in search of captin quark to fight the bad guy (chairman drek)who wants to create an new world by pulling apart other world coz he say his own planet is 2 polluted but he just wants to make money and then drek decides he he wants to put it in the perfet orbit and wants to destroy ratchets planet leading to the last boss battle when you finish you get to have the gold versions of the weapons the golden chicken ray makes giant chickens it way cool!!
but end up doing it them selves really great! 10/10!!!! -
I grew up playing this game. A lot of the PS1 and PS2 games are classics, but there are some that do not age very well.
I started playing this game again, 20 years after it's release and it's aged incredibly well. The graphics (upscaled and emulated) are a solid 8/10. The gameplay is a 9/10 - - simple but easily the best in it's genre at the time and still enjoyable. The number of memorable gadgets and weapons is great. I remember as a kid saving enough bolts to finally buy the RYNO, and I still have that same feeling. The UI and sound design is a 10/10. A lot of modern games could learn from the UI and sound design to be honest.
This is one of the best action adventure games ever made and it deserves to still be played! -
ndire25 November 2023This game was the first game I ever played when I was 6 years old with my dad and we absolutely fell in love with the franchise. It's an amazing story and a classic adventure that I believe anyone could play. It deserves a remaster on any future consoles that come out hundreds of years from now. It will forever be considered a classic for the ages. There is no limit to how far ratchet and clank can go there will always be another universe to save and an adventure to have. Playing this game today takes me back to those glory days of being a kid and discovering the wonders and beauty of the video game industry. Please give it a try.

themasterofdisaster022 August 2003Ratchet & Clank is an outstanding game for PS2. All the weapons, gadgets, characters are all the best, and also it fits in with the game. Ive beaten R&C 4 times. When you beat R&C you feel like playing it again. It is not to long and not to short. I cant wait for Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando, which comes out November 11, of this year. I recommend R&C and give it a 10/10!!!!!

patrick_dunne31 January 2006Ratchet and Clank is about a space creature (don't know what it's called) who meets a little robot named Clank. They join forces to stop the evil mad scientist. (I forgot his name.) Now, let's get to the good stuff.
Graphics- Ratchet works in 3-D. They're good, but not mind-blowing.
Level Design- Well, the levels vary, but it simmers down to fighting loads of enemies many of the times. Beside, there are too many of those door-opening puzzles.
Controls- The controls are smooth, and never hard to learn.
Diffculty- It never gets too difficult, and never too easy. It's about right.
Story- Well, it's not too good, but it's a video game! The cut scenes are hilarious though.
Variety- The variety is a bit limited sometimes, but new things are thrown into the mix here and there.
Shopping- You can buy plenty of weapons and ammo from the shops.
Rewards for completing the game- None
