  • A statue which wherever goes, brings bad luck is the cynosure of this classic. Two families with corporate rivalry first find out about the ill- effects of the otherwise valuable statue bust.

Comedy of errors ensues when the families try to get rid of the statue bust as their business start to tremble. With addition of romantic elements and some of the funniest dialogs in Malayalam cinema, this film works as a family entertainer. It is too late when the guy, whose actually the statue is, confronts both the families. Jagathy Sreekumar's character is funnier than everybody else's and his antics makes most of the second part.

BOTTOM LINE: Highly Recommended as it is a staple comedy of the 90s.
  • The film begins with nambiar(Rajan p dev) who is suffering from various losses in business. Worried about her husband's plight, nambiar's wife sudharma(Reena) advises him to seek the help of an astrologer thanku panicker(ms thripunithara). Despite being an atheist, nambiar agrees to his wife's advice. Thanku panicker finds that a little golden statue which nambiar brought from Singapore is responsible for all the problems and the jinx will only leave if this statue is brought by someone happily. Nambiar reveals that somebody left this statue to him at airport and never returned. Pilla(Janardhanan), nambiar's business rival comes to his house and invites him for his 60th birthday party. At that time, nambiar's son Pradeep(jagadeesh) gives an idea to present this statue as a birthday gift to pilla. Nambiar liked the idea and gifts the statue to pilla which the latter receives happily. After that, the problems in nambiar's house are gone and nambiar turns religious. On the other hand, problems in pilla's life begins. Hearing the problems getting rid from nambiar's house due to thanku panicker, pilla's wife vishalakshi(zeenath) advises pilla to bring him in their house. Thanku panicker finds that statue and says the same thing to pilla. Immediately, vishalakshi's mahila samajam people arrive at pilla's house for some donation and pilla smartly gives that statue to them. That statue is later given to Pradeep for first prize in singing competition. When he finds the statue is back, Pradeep manages to get rid of it by giving it to a scrap collector. That scrap collector bumps into nambiar's father in law Patti Menon(paravoor Bharathan) and his driver omanakuttan(jagathi) and they beat him up and falsely accuse him for stealing the statue from nambiar's house. Menon brings the statue back but he is ousted from nambiar's house. After knowing about the curse, Menon and omanakuttan try various things to get rid of it but nothing works. Finally Menon bribes omanakuttan and makes him take the statue happily. Omanakuttan is immediately kicked out from work by Menon. Returning back to his rented home with the statue, omanakuttan finds that there were diamonds hidden under it. Omanakuttan takes few samples of the diamonds and stores the rest of it in a rooftop. Twist in the tale, comes when the statue's owner junior mandrake (Sidha Raj) an underworld Don arrives in Kerala in search of it and starts kidnapping all the people who had the statue. When omanakuttan returns to get the rest of the diamonds, the home is now turned into a police station. Omanakuttan tries to enter the police lockup in order to get the diamonds by trying to get in some police case but fails and lands up in a Ayurvedic mental clinic run by maniyan vaidyan(mala aravindan). Will omanakuttan escape and get the diamonds or will junior mandrake get it is the rest of the movie. Story itself is very interesting revolving around a jinxed statue. It could have been a horror comedy but it was restricted to just a light hearted comedy film. The whole film belongs to these funny characters like omanakuttan played by the legend jagathi sreekumar, pilla alias para pilla who is my favourite in the whole movie, Patti Menon, maniyan vaidyan etc. It may not be perfect, but it's non stop fun makes it one of my favourite comedy films in Malayalam. Years later, they made one pathetic sequel out of it, which I would like to think it did not exist.
