  • This is the first Telugu film I have seen, and although I am only beginning to learn the language, it was easy to follow this well-paced story.

Reminiscent of plays by Sheridan or Moliere, the screenplay was hilarious and friendly, and the sensitive touches would make it a good date movie. The punch-line ending was a great way to top off this misadventure.

    Worth renting.

I think this is one of those really good movies that doesn't rely on crazy gimmicks to evoke laughter. However it finally does resort to the standard Nag style of one woman in the past and one in the present. A malyali friend of mine who happened to see this movie and then 'Mass' and then 'Super' was quite shocked that Nag had to have 2 heroines every time!! No but seriously. I thought it was REALLY hilarious. Sonali is looking ravishing as ever. Nag did display a li'l bit of acting. Bramhanandam and T.Bharani awesome acting as usual. I personally think Anshu(past heroine ;)) was hopeless. She cant act. All she did was expose. She is supposed to be from some small town. I swear I have never seen any town girl dressed like that.Watch it with the entire family u will need someone to hold onto you when u laugh.

Manmathudu, in essence, is funny and schmaltzy by the same token. Much of both arise from the film's acute understanding of what it is to be au fait with the maxim "The hardest thing to do is watch the one you love marry somebody else!" Manmathudu, Vijaya Bhasker's latest film, follows Abhiram, and the recouping of his faith in the institution of love and marriage.

When Mr. Manmathudu a.k.a. Abhiram meets Maheshwari (Anshu), his entire being is transformed. He is smitten by her immaculate charm. Before long, Abhiram, without warning, gives her a full throttle kiss (you can tell... these guys know how to kiss!), and precisely when you are about to think that they make a lovely twosome, Maheshwari's uncle happens to catch them red-handed, and promptly disappears with her.

After a brief stint of probing, Abhiram manages to find where they are. While he is relieved that he's found her, she is upset and scared, mainly because she knows how much this incredible man rocks her world and how his presence threatens her resolve and control. She denies within herself that she loves him, but as we know, love prevails over everything, and she walks out with him. Unfortunately, the very same day, she breathes her last in an accident.

Abhiram is told by his granddad that Maheshwari has betrayed him and has married someone else, which engenders in him an aggressive feeling of hatred towards women - he now hates women. Now whether Abhiram overcomes his fear of water (no, we won't tell you - go watch the movie!) and hatred towards women in order to marry Haarika (Sonali Bendre) or not is what covers the rest of the story.

Nagarjuna lends significantly to the character of Abhiram in one of his slickest cinematic performances ever. He perfectly captures the liveliness, complexity and frustration of Abhiram. Unquestionably, Manmathudu proves to be an enthralling vehicle for his crowd-pleasing comeback. Sonali gives a commendable performance as a young and struggling art director who is in love with Abhiram. Anshu, Bharani, Sunil and the rest all give noteworthy performances.

Devi Sri Prasad's romantic and sometimes ominous musical score nicely complements the images on screen. The soundtrack, which spawned a decently successful album, is dominated by the hit numbers "Naa Manasune" and "Andamaina Bhamalu".

The dialogues, penned by Trivikram, are chronically mind-boggling. The script carries an underlying message about the impact that a lack of audacity may have on love affairs. It is filled with the kind of exuberant spirit that's hard for even the most cynical to resist.

Manmathudu gratifies on many levels. The direction maintains pace and intrigue, the performances are spot on, and the locations are simply sumptuous, be it Smokey Alps or a clean Hyderabad road. All things considered, if you can stomach the thirty minutes of echoing flashback, Manmathudu makes for one intense and rousing entertainment, and if you're on its quirky wavelength, it might just strike you as one of the funniest movies you've ever seen!
  • Incontrovertibly one of the best movies in Telugu industry in complete sense - entertainment, music, lyrics and whatnot. Lyrics are simply the best i have heard in a decade. Hatsoff to Sirivennela. Nag's comedy breathes class while Sonali's grace adds quality. No comments about Anshu - good show by a budding artiste. Comedy from Brahmanandam, T.Bharani and others is also praiseworthy. Cinematography is not bad, apt to the storyline. Choreograpy...you cant expect better from Nag. Movie scores well at editing, screenplay and direction. Music by Devisri is simply superb, probably @ his pinnacle. Three Cheers to my FAVOURITE Sonail, Nag, and the movie. Highly recommended to watch. A family entertainer.
  • If i had to comment about this movie, my first words would be about dharma varapu subramanyam. His part, though it was short, made me watch the movie one more time. Brahmanandam's part, it says "watch me baby one more time..!" . Nagarjun's part of cracking their jokes is on top. All together vijay bhaskar delivered one perfect comedy with little but stronger love story. The good part of the movie is the way it goes while the hero does both comedy and tragedy parts, we don't even notice the changes.

The delivery of the transmitters is the best part. The tour to parris is another must watch.

Rom-Coms are a rarity in Telugu. There are quite a few, but all of them share the same kind of story. This is where "Manmadhudu" scores. It defies the regular Romantic comedy movie pattern and instead sets one on its own.

Story - Abhiram is a manager in his ad agency. He despises women and feels that all women are traitors. Abhiram's uncle , who is the chairman of the ad agency, appoints Harika as the assistant manager. Though Abhiram does not like a girl joining his company, he has to live with it as the appointment is made by his uncle. He starts mistreating her. Harika, vexed by Abhiram's acts, submits her resignation to his uncle, who then narrates Abhiram's past to Harika. What is Abhiram's past ?? Why does he hates women ?? What happens to Harika forms the story.

Performances - After a highly acclaimed performance in "Santosham", Nagarjuna comes up with another fabulous performance in this film. He sets a new trend in uttering punch dialogs. His comedy timing is impeccable. He shares some very nice romantic moments with Sonali Bendre and some extremely hilarious episodes with Brahmandam. The first half (comedians come in second half) is carried single-handedly by Nagarjuna. Sonali Bendre did very well. Anshu is okay. Brahmanandam is extremely funny. There some very nice one- liners for him. Sunil is equally good as Bunk Seenu. Tanikella Bharani is very good as Nagarjuna's uncle. All others performed well.

Technical Departments - Cinematography and Art Work are just superb. Editing is fine.

Story & Dialogues - Like I said earlier, the story is a bench mark in romantic comedies. It has something in it for every set of audience. Dialogues by Trivikram are excellent.

Music - Devi Sri Prasad gave some of his career best, if not the best, tunes for this film. His music is soothing. I really miss that Devi Sri Prasad, who used to raise expectations on a film single handedly by his chart busting songs. Now a days, what he is giving is nothing in- front of what he used to give in those days. For proof, listen to Manmadhudu. Such an extra-ordinary soundtrack it is..!! Even the background score is terrific.

Direction - Direction by Vijayabhaskar is superb, but for last song, which is abrupt. He knows the sensibilities very well and handled them deftly.

Overall, "Manmadhudu" is a superb romantic comedy. No.. it is not a comedy movie... It has some very beautiful romantic moments which will be missing in regular comedy movies. It also has some very nice clean comedy. That's why I'd say this is the best romantic comedy in Telugu, till date, which balances romance and comedy in right proportions. Watch it, without hesitation. Its a clean Entertainer.
  • Though it came in the early 2000s, this film is still very entertaining to this day, which is one of the reasons why this film has cemented itself as an all-time classic in the hearts of Telugu movie fans. Along with a plot, this film also has a solid cast with King Nagarjuna and Sonali Bendre being in the lead. Brahmanandam, Tanikella Barani, and the other supporting cast also add onto the plot while making the viewer laugh with the iconic comedy. An overall 10/10 film, this movie nails it. 10/10 Stars.

  • Manmadhudu (2002) : Brief Review -

A typical formulaic rom-com done right with additional drama. K. Vijaya Bhaskar's "Nuvvu Naaku Nachchav" (2001) with Venkatesha was simply adorable, and it's a timeless family entertainer. With Manmadhudu, I was expecting a similar kind of film, but it was a bit lower than expected. I am not saying that it's a bad film; it's just that it isn't as great as NNN. It's a formulaic rom-com done right for mainstream cinema lovers, with an additional dose of drama. Firstly, who is that duffer who wrote that Manmadhudu is inspired by the Hollywood flick, "What Women Want" (2000)? Did he really see these two films or just write it for fun, and how the hell Wikipedia hasn't erased it yet? Let me make it clear that Manmadhudu has nothing to do with What Women Want. The film is about Abhiram, a mysogynist who has a lot of girls in his office and is forced to travel with his new lady boss, Harika. Harika learns about his past and why he hates girls/women so much, and she begins to feel affection for him. Abhiram, too, starts getting attracted to her during the Paris trip. His sweet dreams are shattered soon after learning that Harika is already engaged to be married soon. Will these two dare to accept their love and come together? There are two love stories in the film, and both begin without any proper theories. That's modern love, I guess. It's a predictable story for anyone who has seen at least 50 rom-coms from old Hollywood, Bollywood, and Tollywood. There is nothing new. The comedy and songs work just fine enough to keep you hooked, and the performances are fairly okay. Bhaskar's direction offers everything that you expect from a contemporary rom-com, and that's quite engaging too. Overall, it's a pretty good watch for couples and families, but 8+ user ratings at IMDb? I'll not bet on that, even for free.
