A bored married couple is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other.
The script reportedly went through over fifty drafts. Although original writer Simon Kinberg was the final writer during production, various uncredited writers worked on drafts throughout the film's development, including Jez Butterworth, John Butterworth, Carrie Fisher, Akiva Goldsman, Ted Griffin, Kieran Mulroney, Michele Mulroney, and Terence Winter.
OK, I'll go first. Um... Let me say, uh, we don't really need to be here. See, we've been married for five years.
Jane Smith: Six.
John Smith: Five, six years.
When Eddie's phone device, to notify him of targets, goes off early in the morning, while he is still in bed, it notifies him that Jane Smith is a target. Her personal details reveal that she had brown eyes, when in fact her eyes are blue.
Unrated Director's cut changes several elements to the film. While the story remains the same, many of Jane and John's interactions have been changed. Also the soundtrack has been changed. The Dust Brother's original soundtrack for Fight Club can distinctly be heard added to several scenes.
