  • Shehzaade review :

Actor Rajan Sippy turned producer with this action drama featuring Dharmendra in double role with Shatrughan Sinha, Moushmi Chatterjee, Jaya Prada, Dimple Kapadia and Kimi Katkar as leads. The multistarrer film released in Diwali 1989 but sadly, couldnt attract audience to the theatres.

Directed by Raj (Daddu) Sippy, Shehzaade had an overdose of action and violence - an 80s Bollywood staple - with a mix of lost & found plus revenge drama thrown in for good measure. Dharam played father and estranged son while Shatru was older Dharams son unaware of his fathers existence. The brothers end up being sworn enemies due to a misunderstanding created by the villain. Expectedly, Danny was menacing as the main villain while the heroines - specially Dimple and Kimi - were just decorative props. Jaya Prada hammed it up in her small role.

Even with all its excesses, I liked the movie when I saw it first at Badal Bijlee cinema, Matunga and later again on VHS in 1989. Today, it appears dated though. Recommended for 80s kids who have grown up watching such actioners!!
