A teenage girl is convinced that her home city revolves around her until her family packs up and moves to the suburbs, where she finds herself competing for attention.
In the scene of Lola's fantasy during rehearsal, she tributes to Marilyn Monroe. The song played is also Monroe's song from the film "Some Like it Hot". Monroe is very well known for owning her sensuality and using the idea of 'the male gaze' to her advantage in acting and reaching the fame she strived for. This is also alluded to with Lola by the way she presents her confidence in herself through the movie.
