The footage of F. Murray Abraham reading from the play "Angels in America" was filmed during the play's Broadway run when he played Roy Cohn, who is a center figure also in this documentary. This documentary's drama segments were scripted by David Marshall Grant who were also in that play at Broadway at the time.
Originally shown as a 137 minute version that combined 50/50 dramatized segments and interview segments. When interest for Studio 54 reawakened in 1997 after two newly published books and two Hollywood-film in the making (54 (1998) and The Last Days of Disco (1998)) it was re-edited to a new version which mainly consists of the 44 interviews and to a much lesser extent the dramatized segments.
