Jean Renoir had already filmed this riotously funny play in 1931;it was his first talkie and he was reportedly delighted to let us hear the sound of a flush! Thanks to two Monstres Sacrés ,Jeanette Hubert's MTV effort compares favorably with that of her illustrious predecessor.

Bernard Blier ,as Monsieur Follavoine ,is meek, under the yoke of a bad-tempered wife and overtaken by events .

Danielle Darrieux ,as Julie Follavoine,is a shrew ,and although a bourgeois, she looks like a Concierge with her bucket and her broom.

Madame Follavoine 's problem is serious!Bébé did not have a bowel movement and he needs to be purged .As he does not want to have his spoonful of laxative, mama suggest daddy drink a full glass of it.

But Monsieur Follavoine is expecting Monsieur Chouilloux for an important deal which concerns national defense:the visitor is to buy from him chamber pots for the soldiers' comfort in their barracks .

This is a crazy story in which a constipated brat launches a series of catastrophes and mistaken identities ,involving cuckolds , the soldiers' fate ,and an industrial trying to prove his pot is unbreakable .

    Riotously funny indeed!
