M. Night Shyamalan's filmography has been uneven, but the director has always returned with a new hit after a failure, which in itself makes him a unique auteur. On August 9, 2024, the director's next project will be released, titled Trap, which is already fascinating viewers with its trailer alone.
In honor of this, we offer a list of Shyamalan's films to watch and revisit – not including The Sixth Sense, which needs no introduction.

Several couples with their children come on vacation to a paradise island that ordinary people don't know about. The beach turns out to be amazing, but terrible things happen on it: first the tourists find the body of a girl, and then the children suddenly start to grow up by leaps and bounds. Time passes faster on this beach, and it is impossible to get out of here: any attempt to do so results in losing consciousness.

The dinosaur-chasing actor will take your questions on her extraordinary range of stage, film and TV roles from Shakespeare to Black Mirror to Rocketman
The actor Bryce Dallas Howard may be best known to cinema audiences for walloping genetically modified dinosaurs, but she began in experimental theatre, then broke through on Broadway, playing Rosalind in a production of As You Like It. It was this which alerted M Night Shyalaman to her talent – he then cast her, without an audition, as the lead in 2004’s The Village, as a blind woman who lives as part of a curious sect in a remote community.
Ambitious choices continued, with a role in Lars von Trier’s Manderlay, playing the part originated by Nicole Kidman in Dogville, as an ally to slaves in rural Alabama. Then followed a reunion with Shyalaman for Lady in the Water, and a return to her roots, playing...

The Last Airbender director M. Night Shyamalan landed himself in controversy after employing a rather unethical marketing strategy for his film, The Village. To create buzz around the Joaquin Phoenix film, Syfy Channel (earlier Sci Fi) aired a documentary, The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan, that claimed to reveal deep secrets about the director. The documentary was later revealed to be a hoax, blending real-life events with fiction.
The Last Airbender director M. Night Shyamalan undertook a questionable marketing tactic for his film The Village
The documentary was created by Nathaniel Kahn and Callum Greene. It allegedly uncovered events from Shyamalan’s life through interviews, reenactments, and supposedly leaked footage. The documentary suggested that Shyamalan had a direct connection to the supernatural.

A group of people stuck in an isolated location being terrorized by enigmatic and very possibly supernatural forces residing just outside the barriers of their refuge, all of which feels more like a waking dream than events taking place in the real world? "The Watchers" is a Shyamalan joint alright, just not the Shyamalan who gave us thrillers like "Signs," "The Village," and "Knock at the Cabin." This intriguing big-screen take on A. M. Shine's novel of the same name instead comes from writer and director Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night and a first-time feature filmmaker looking to mark a splash after helming multiple episodes of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series "Servant" (which M. Night also worked on as a producer and director) and doing second unit work on some of her pop's pictures since his return to low-budget thrillers around a decade ago, starting with "The Visit.

From a certain perspective, monster movies might not seem to be as relevant during monstrous times. But in an age when our fears seem larger than life and the world constantly seems as though it’s on the brink of collapse, the best examples of the genre can almost assume a documentary-like authenticity, reflecting our reality as vividly as vérité ever could.
“The Babadook” might be about a demon that pops out of a children’s book, but no recent film does a better job of capturing the acute reality of living with grief. “Cloverfield” follows a gaggle of pre-Instagram model millennials as they’re chased around Manhattan by a bug-eyed colossus, but few of the somber post-9/11 dramas do a better job of distilling the heartsick chaos of watching your hometown try to make sense of a senseless attack. “The Village” is...

Well, this is a semi-dangerous decision. Yes, I’m starting with The Twilight Zone 80s. Niki, haven’t we been telling you to do Og Twilight Zone… why are you doing this? A couple of reasons, the first being that this has been on repeat for me the past 6 months or longer, with Tales from the Crypt never being too far behind it. The other being that I felt like it. You’re lucky I didn’t start with Night Gallery, or maybe that’s what you wanted. So let’s talk 80s Twilight Zone, or New Twilight Zone, or Twilight Zone reboot/revival, whatever you choose to call it.
The reason to give it another go was simple. Rod Serling, my personal hero, sold the rights to Twilight Zone after the show ended its run in 1964. The studio bought the rights even though they weren’t exactly ready to start it up again.

Bryce Dallas Howard is an established actress in Hollywood, but she made her debut when she was well into her 20s. It was quite late by industry standards, especially since she was the daughter of the renowned director, Ron Howard. The Jurassic World actress had a chance to step into the world of acting when she was only a child but did not.
As it turns out, her two-time Academy Award-winning father simply prevented her and her siblings from venturing into the world at such a young age. Her father has always been watching out for her, even if his decision raised more than a few eyebrows at the time.

Ron Howard is revealing why he didn’t want his eldest daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, to be a child actor.
The director-writer-actor recently told People magazine that he forbade Bryce from acting at a young age after having to navigate Hollywood as a child himself.
“It’s possible for child performers to really find a lot that is positive within it, but it’s fraught with landmines,” he explained. Ron played Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show at just six years old in the 1960s, and recalled his parents having to supervise him and his brother.
The Arrested Development actor-producer added that he also protected his children from the spotlight because he didn’t want them to be compared to his career if they followed a similar path.

After earning seven Academy Awards for his latest opus, Oppenheimer, everyone wants to know what Christopher Nolan will be doing next. The short answer, of course, is anything he wants. But, buried within a Variety report about how much the director earned for Oppenheimer is a juicy tidbit teasing he might be directing an adaptation of the classic ’60s series The Prisoner! Widely considered one of the greatest TV shows of all time, it starred Patrick McGoohan (who was also the creative mind behind the show) as an unnamed British spy dumped on an island prison for those who were too valuable to be allowed to roam free. Dubbed “The Village”, the former spies don’t have names, but are rather known by their numbers. He’s known as Number 6, with Number 2 being in charge of the never-seen Number 1. The early aughts were a very good time to be M. Night Shyamalan, certainly the best time. Coming off his Oscar-nominated blockbuster The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan was instantly a household name and recognized as one of the most exciting new filmmakers to come along in years. He was even dubbed “the next Spielberg” by Newsweek Magazine. Night certainly leaned into this hype, very much enjoyed the accolades and attention and quickly parlayed that good will into a couple of memorable thrillers: 2000’s Unbreakable and 2002’s Signs. While neither film reached the box office or pop cultural heights The Sixth Sense did, they were evidence that Shyamalan was indeed a born filmmaker, able to craft genre films that were suspenseful and dramatic in equal measure. After Signs came out, it was hard to find someone who didn’t know the name Shyamalan; he was the rare director whose name was as...

The regional cinema hailing from the southern part of India has ventured into fantasy fiction and sci-fi drama, and so far, they have managed to produce several mediocre products in this genre. The Village is a Tamil-language six-episode miniseries about a scientific experiment that went wrong and how it affected the entire population living in the place. Created and directed by Milind Rau, this show is a decent attempt to work around a genre that is tricky at best.

Chennai, Nov 21 (Ians) Making his Ott debut in the upcoming violent, and bloody horror series ‘The Village’, Tamil star Arya has opened up on his experience regarding the series’ shoot, saying that Ott shooting is an altogether different experience.
Talking about the series in detail, the ‘Iraandan Ulagam’ actor said: “My Ott debut with ‘The Village’ has definitely been a different kind of experience. The actor further mentioned, “I found that particularly enticing, which led me to pursue it further. The horror series is a class apart from all other horror genres seen on the Indian Ott platforms.”

Unveiling its new trailer, the Tamil horror series ‘The Village’ has only amped up the creeps as horrifying mutants come out from the dark and hunt a family, turning a simple family outing into a living nightmare and a desperate fight for survival.
Inspired by writers Asvin Srivatsangam, Vivek Rangachari, and Shamik Dasgupta’s graphic horror novel of the same name, the series is nonetheless its own thing and is a fast-paced, action-packed story that takes the viewers deep into the desolate hinterlands of Tamil Nadu and into the village of Kattiyal.
Going out on a simple family road trip, protagonist Gautham (played by Arya) and his family encounter a living form of horror which turns out to be worse than their worst nightmare. The origins of these mutants is not fully known though they may be some creation spawned by black magic, as is implied.

New Delhi, Nov 15 (Ians) A pure scaretale, the overall soundtrack of ‘The Village’ is just the perfect album you could ask for in a horror feature. Rooted in rustic and folk traditions, there is a powerful sense of an otherworldly darkness lurking in the corner, and it feels very real.
At times utterly terrifying and at times festive, ‘The Village’ jukebox feels like a bit of an emotional whiplash as it can really mess up the emotions given that you don’t know what to expect at all as it changes tone.
The soundtrack is overalla very ingeniously composed piece, and pieces such as the title track, ‘ThaayiSong’ prove this.
The instrumentation is also something that really drives in the feeling of an occult-like horror, as the sound of dholaks and bamboo flutes don’t really give you any kind of warmth, rather it just feels very ominous and sinister.

The teaser for the upcoming Tamil horror series ‘The Village’ is ominous and terrifying. A fight against ghouls, dark abominations, as well as elements of the occult, the series is a full on horror spectacle.
The short clip shows a lot of high class VFX, practical effects, and ghoulish make-up with a very haunting atmosphere. Rooted in a village, the monsters that strike are some of the most ferocious and bestial abominations there are, while there also seems to be some kind of black magic thing on, indicating occult practices.
Series director and creative producer Milind Rau spoke of the series and said: “I believe a good horror series or movie is one that can leave you terrified to step out alone at night, where the sound of a twig snapping makes your heart skip a beat, where shadows appear to come alive around you. M. Night Shyamalan's thirty-year-plus career has gone through many highs and lows — from rising to prominence as an innovative auteur to becoming a parody of himself with a string of unsuccessful studio sludge, then experiencing a comeback through the lo-fi horror genre. Whether he's viewed as a critical darling or a critical punching bag, Shyamalan continues to deliver suspenseful stories that delve into the darkest, most emotional corners of the human psyche.
After his masterpiece "The Sixth Sense" thrust him into the spotlight, Shyamalan became synonymous with supernatural thrillers that deliver a gobsmacking twist, turning the world of the film completely upside down. But soon these astonishing final revelations became an expectation that not every film was able to deliver, even becoming ridiculously absurd.

I didn’t bring my stilts,” dad-jokes Lindsey Buckingham as he eyes Omar Apollo, all six feet five of him. Apollo lets out a chuckle as he leans against the recording console, where Buckingham’s band, Fleetwood Mac, happened to have made Tusk 45 years ago.

The Lumière Festival’s International Classic Film Market (Mifc) in Lyon, France, is highlighting heritage documentaries, examining Cuban and Swedish cinema and showcasing the work of the Wim Wenders Foundation as part of a newly revamped program.
In overhauling the Mifc, organizers are seeking to position the event closer to industry needs, offer improved services and offer a clearer picture of the ever evolving heritage content market.
The change will “modify the market to be less institutional and more business oriented,” says Gérald Duchaussoy, who oversees programming and coordination for the Mifc.
The market, which runs Oct. 17-20, kicks off with a keynote by Claire Brunel and Hella Wenders, the managing director of the Wim Wenders Foundation.

Much like her "Bridgerton" character in Regency London, Phoebe Dynevor made quite a splash in the Hollywood dating pool as she rose to fame along with the Netflix hit. In particular, she generated a lot of buzz for briefly dating Pete Davidson in 2021, though in a Sept. 26 interview with Elle, she said that she was very surprised at how much excitement the relationship created.
"It just goes back to being naïve - I didn't think anyone would care," she said of the attention their romance brought her. "I was just being a young woman and dating and somehow that provokes a conversation. There were lots of hard lessons I had to learn through basically just having a personal life. You realize, 'Oh, I can't live my life in the way that I used to. I have to keep my cards slightly closer to my chest.' There was a time,...

"If you're born in this town, you're cursed." MGM has unveiled an official trailer for a horror movie called Dark Harvest, the latest film project from horror filmmaker David Slade. This was originally set to open in 2022, but was delayed and now the studio is dumping it direct-to-vod to watch at home starting in October during Halloween season. I guess they didn't think a theatrical release is worth it? Adapted from the book of the same name, it's set in a small town where the young men must confront a creature each year in the hopes that they will win a chance to leave. A legendary monster called October Boy terrorizes residents in a small Midwestern town when he rises from the cornfields every Halloween with his butcher knife and makes his way toward those brave enough to confront him. Every year the local boys get ready for the "Run...

On the eve of the king tide, a life is lost via miscarriage while another is found crying in the hull of a capsized boat come ashore. Is it a sign? Some cosmic balancing of scales? Perhaps a test of empathy, morality, and humanity for citizens of a small island village that will soon do anything to keep it as their own. Because this child isn’t like any other. She has an unexplainable gift: anyone near her will suddenly be healed of all ailments. If it’s a revelation that can change everything, its potential salvation is but one side of the coin. The other’s combination of complacency, jealousy, and divinity brings destruction.

Comedian Mark Normand has announced his first hourlong special for Netflix, “Soup to Nuts,” which will hit the streaming site on July 25.

It was little surprise that the Chris Hemsworth action-sequel “Extraction 2” would lead Netflix’s Top 10 chart for the week of June 12, but the original “Extraction” ended up taking second place as viewers that missed it caught up before watching its sequel. Read on for this week’s analysis, noting that Netflix has begun focusing more on total views for many of their films and series, rather than just hours viewed.
“Extraction 2” scored 42.8 million views worldwide since debuting on the streamer on Friday, June 16, or 88.4 million hours viewed, as the #1 most-viewed film in 88 of the 93 countries where it entered the Top 10. Ireland was the only primarily English-speaking country that had a different movie watched the most, and that was “Paw Patrol: The Movie.”
The original “Extraction” from 2020 scored 9.6 million views for 18.8 million viewing hours, while “Paw Patrol” was watched 6.6 million times or 9.4 million hours. Even less of a surprise...
