“Big Little Lies” has a big little lead at the Golden Globes. The HBO series, which already won eight Primetime Emmys in September, now heads into the 2018 Globes with six nominations, more than any other program.
The “Big Little Lies” nomination haul comes just days after HBO confirmed that a second season of the show is now in the works. Behind it is FX’s “Feud: Bette & Joan,” which has four nods; then Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” NBC’s “This Is Us,” and FX’s “Fargo,” with three apiece. Beyond that, the Hollywood Foreign Press spread the nomination love around, with many of TV’s most acclaimed shows receiving just one or two nominations. It’s the end result of the Peak TV era: With such a robust and eclectic offering of scripted TV shows from multiple outlets, HFPA voters opted to honor as many shows as possible.

The streaming TV biz passed the ultimate Emmy threshold on Sunday night, as Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” made history.
“Handmaid’s Tale” picked up the win for outstanding drama series, which represents the first time a streaming service had one won of the top Emmy series prizes. It was just four years ago, in 2013, that Netflix became the first streaming platform to win an Emmy, as “House of Cards” picked up a handful of victories.
“Streaming has arrived, and we’re here to say what a wonderful journey,” said “Handmaid’s Tale” executive producer Warren Littlefield. Added exec producer Bruce Miller: “The way Hulu handled our show, they were bold and behind us and committed to making something interesting.”

As of late, every major fest has included some degree of television in its programming. But Tribeca is demonstrating a new level of commitment to episodic content with Tribeca TV, an entire festival dedicated to the small screen (to use an increasingly antiquated term).
Running September 22-24 in New York, Tribeca TV will feature the world premieres of the upcoming new series “At Home with Amy Sedaris,” as well as “Designated Survivor” Season 2 and “Red Oaks” Season 3. Also getting special previews are Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated “Better Things,” the fourth season of “Gotham,” the upcoming Sundance TV miniseries “Liar,” and NBC’s revival of classic sitcom “Will & Grace.”

Earn Marks and Sam Fox may be struggling, but their new TV series are not. FX has handed out second season renewals to “Atlanta” and “Better Things,” both of which will return next year with ten more episodes.
Donald Glover is executive producer and star of “Atlanta,” playing aspiring hip-hop manager Earn (who’s really just trying to support his toddler), while Pamela Adlon is executive producer and star of “Better Things,” playing working actress Sam (who’s also trying to support her three daughters).

“Atlanta” premiered to strong numbers, giving FX the most-watched basic cable primetime scripted comedy premiere in three years (among adults 18-49, after three days of “Live+3” time-shifted viewing). And the audience is growing: “Atlanta’s” third episode attracted 1.9 million viewers in Live+3, up from the previous week’s 1.6 million.

Among the many highlights in the premiere episode of “Better Things,” that audition scene stood out. While the cameos were great — Constance Zimmer! Julie Bowen! — and an inside look at the industry is always fun, there was an unspoken meta narrative at play that made the scene feel like an inside joke you’ve just got to hear.
Well, that’s because it was — and now you can.
To recap: Sam (Pamela Adlon) went to audition for a legal drama and sat down next to none other than everyone’s favorite “UnREAL” boss, Constance Zimmer. Waiting to read along with a slew of other dark-haired women in suit jackets, the two actors’ first words to each other were, “Of course you’re here.”
Turns out the acknowledgement was a shared wink to one another, right there, on national TV.
“Pam and I are constantly mistaken for each other,” Zimmer said during an interview with IndieWire.

When “The Knick” debuted on Cinemax two years ago, it marked a substantial shift in content for Cinemax. HBO’s double-a affiliate took a swing in the big leagues with Steven Soderbergh’s beautifully captured period piece, and, while it didn’t exactly strike ratings gold, “The Knick” did earn the network a lot of attention — from critics, awards shows and the industry at large. So it makes sense that the network would follow up one dark period piece with another of similar construction. The only problem? “Quarry” suffers from the same issue “The Knick” did: They backed the wrong protagonist.
“Quarry” tracks Mac Conway (Logan Marshall-Green), a Vietnam veteran returning home to Memphis after his second tour of duty. A minor celebrity for all the wrong reasons, folks back home suspect Conway did some bad things overseas — worse things than are required of war veterans. This overwhelming perception makes...

September 5 on MTV
What Is It? From the writer/directors behind the cult favorite “Josie and the Pussycats” adaptation, this series follows two “ganjapeneurs” who run a weed delivery service in Los Angeles.
I’ll Like It If I Like… The “Broad City” influence is pretty clear, as the show is focused on the tight friendship between Jordan (Scout Durwood) and Paige (Jessica Rothe) and their stoner antics.
Why Should I Care? Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont’s unique approach to satirizing La hipster culture really help this show stand out from the pack of other female-led comedies, while also promising a more surreal touch. Durwood and Rothe also make for an enjoyable pairing. For fans of the pot comedy genre, it’s an easy sell.

Rocksteady’s trilogy-capping Batman: Arkham Knight may be drawing attention for its intriguing gameplay changes and bleeding-edge visuals, but the studio has today revealed the voice cast that will be bringing a number of memorable characters to life from behind the pixels.
First up, the staples of the series will once again reprise their roles in the threequel, including Kevin Conroy as The Caped Crusader, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, Nolan North as Penguin, not to mention The Last of Us‘ Troy Baker as Two-Face.
Beyond that, Rocksteady has left no stone unturned in its search for talent, with the developer securing Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul‘s Jonathan Banks for the role of Jim Gordon. A perfect fit, really, especially when you consider Banks’ world-weary turn as Mike Ehrmantraut. Alongside him are Twilight‘s Ashley Greene as Barbara Gordon – aka Oracle. When Pamela Adlon's oldest daughter was going into middle school, the actress suffered a mini-meltdown. Another mom had said that she allowed her children – a seventh grader and a nine-year-old – to watch Californication, the sexually explicit Showtime comedy series about debauched yet well-meaning novelist, Hank Moody (played by David Duchovny) and his equally depraved friends, one of whom is the professional pubic-hair waxer Marcy Runkle, played by Adlon. Isaac Hempstead-Wright has an interesting storyline ahead of him in "Game of Thrones" Season 3. Hs character Bran and onscreen brother Rickon might be on the run with the wildling Osha and the Winterfell resident Hodor, but that doesn't stop them from meeting two new characters early on in the new season: Thomas Brodie Sangster's Jojen and Ellie Kendrick's Meera.
Zap2it caught up with Hempstead-Wright on the "Game of Thrones" Season 3 premiere red carpet and asked him how adding two new characters to Bran's storyline will change it's dynamic. He gushed about how great it was to work with Sangster and Kendrick, and also teased that Bran's storyline is getting "more intense."
"Thomas and Ellie, loveliest people ever, and it was really cool to have these new people in Bran's storyline. They sort of added this really interesting new aspect to it in terms of characters," Hempstead-Wright said.

But, as The Hitchhiker’s Guide so sagely advises, Don’T Panic. Humor is everywhere you look in science fiction and fantasy. So wrap your towel around your head to ward off noxious fumes, and join in for an irreverent hour celebrating sly wit and unholy humor with some of the most devilish quipsters, wisecrackers, and satirists writing today.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

London - The Mutant Chronicles unleashes cannibalistic humanoids into a steam punk World War I world. The movie features Thomas Jane (Hung), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Devon Aoki (Sin City), Sean Pertwee (Doomsday) and John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich) as the only defense against these ungodly creatures in the CGI enhanced environment. Can Aoki cut them all down with her cool sword?
Director Simon Hunter took nearly two years to adapt the role playing game into a cinematic universe. You can get great sense of what he undertook for his first major motion picture on the Two-disc Collector’s Edition DVD and the Blu-ray recently released by Magnolia Home Entertainment. Fresh off the international success of his animated feature Tekkon Kinkreet director Michael Arias is now poised to make his first foray into the world of live action features with a Japanese remake of German action-comedy Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door. I’m a bit surprised by this move, honestly, but animation directors tend to do well in the live action world and while the first teaser shows very little to get excited about I am reasonably certain from the use of so much behind the scenes footage that there just isn’t very much completed footage from the film available to show yet, which makes it far too early to judge. Beyond Arias’ involvement the key selling point here is that the script was adapted by Detroit Metal City scribe Omori Mika.
Check the first teaser out below the break in the Twitch Player.
