  • Watching on Amazon Prime. Season 1 with Gloria Rueben and Catherine and Dean was great. Gave it a 10. Then came Viveca Fox replacing Gloria. Show ruined!
  • vowels-122 October 2010
The first season of this show was the best, though the other two are worth watching.

The first season gave us a great theme song that matched the mood of the show, and all the characters worked well together. In the second season, they changed it all up and gave us a less believable lead FBI agent with forgettable supporting cast, and a crappy theme song change. The new people in charge at least left the same actress playing the psychic, but it took another 6 or 8 episodes for the new season cast get their rhythm down well.

Not a waste of time, but not a top-notch show.
  • I liked the first season a lot better than the second.

Vivica A. Fox was good in Two Can Play That Game but the jeans and heels attire took the integrity off her character in Missing and now even Caterina Scorsone is dressing the same! You can look older without looking trashy.

It could be that there is no 4th season due to the writing/directing but I had no complaints when Gloria Reuben was FBI agent Nicole Scott. I was hoping Gloria Reuben would replace Marianne Jean-Baptiste on Without a Trace but I was only disappointed, yet again, with the addition of Roselyn Sanchez.

Is there anything good left to watch?
  • I watched every episode the first season and enjoyed the mentoring of Jess by Brooke. Gloria Reuben brought maturity and nuance to her character.

Unfortunately, this season is almost unbearable to watch with the absolutely horrible acting by Vivica Fox. Her character is simply not believable as a senior FBI agent (at least not in the way she "acts" it). The secondary storyline of Fox's character with the hunky Mark Consuelos is also a bit contrived. Thank God for the over the top abrasiveness of their new supervisor (played to perfection by Justin Louis). The new supporting cast overall is good, but is not an improvement over the first season's. I'm giving it a couple more episodes before I give up on it.
  • With a lot of series revolving around police work, including a handful or so already dealing specifically with this particular aspect/type, this needed a niche, something to call its own. What they came up with is to have the lead, Mastriani(who works as a psychic for the FBI, tracking down people who have gone missing), have strange visions, that are puzzle pieces relating to whatever case she's currently working on. If this sounds like a plot device and even a deus ex machina... then you're kinda right. It was, on several occasions. The role is played by Caterina Scorsone, a young Canadian girl who carries it quite well. Acting is a mixed bag at times. Quality ranges a bit. Where the first season was fairly straight-forward, the second replaces all characters but the main(and that was not entirely well-received, as viewers had grown attached to the people and relationships), stylizes it somewhat(adding, among other things, Vivica A. Fox and a new theme song with more of a rock music flavor), and gives it an "edge", represented by the attitude of the new token Black cast member, and Justin Louis as the tough-as-nails FBI Director Pollock. There was good and bad to the changes. I can imagine some abandoning it after so much of what they were(at the very least) used to being tossed out the window, in spite of the move clearly intending to attract a larger audience. I like both groups of episodes, in different ways. It was a classic crime-drama, with focus on the people. Then it became action-driven and cool, resembling newer television efforts in the genre. It never really stopped being a mostly passable mystery, and kept you guessing fairly nicely. I recommend this to fans of the concept, especially the supernatural portion. 7/10

The premise of someone being struck by lightning, surviving and having visions isn't new but perhaps to fiction. This happened to Dannion Brinkley in real life. I liked both sets of cast and they did show Jess's Mom and brother within the framework of the second set of cast. The show was really about Jess and it evolved in a way I thought was very appropriate for her life to move forward. It highlighted others in the cast as well to make it multidimensional. I found no flaws in the acting or dialog. Mostly because I'm not a professional who teaches drama. I didn't think anyone was over acting due to the background of each character. Many times it was quite humorous in how they interacted which was of a level that relieved some of the seriousness of the topics they examined in the series. Fox's character was intense due to hard knocks in life she had to over-come where as Ruben came from a family that had money and prestige. I found all the characters explored in depth and the backgrounds of each playing a factor in how the part was portrayed by the actor. I don't compare Ruben or Fox because the characters weren't remotely alike other than being FBI Agents. I did like the first theme song better because it wasn't like all the others these days in the hip-hop style. It added to the uniqueness of the show but it may have had something to do with Ruben leaving why it changed. Louis Ferreira went by Justin Louis on this show so what IMDb has listed is incorrect in regard to billing. I loved all the seasons of this show with all the actors involved. I only wish that Lifetime had the foresight to hold on for another season and do more ads for it and people would have realized that Jess was growing older and in the show she evolved into a more mature individual with different dress and hair style. Sad a great show was cut short. I personally loved the series.
  • Kind of puzzling why ABC decided to changed almost the entire cast for season 2. It like a completely new show and it for the bad too! Who thought this was good never understood the show!
  • Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed season 1. I like Gloria Reuben, the character of Sunny and her boyfriend Hunter, not to mention her interaction with her brother and her mother. Than I went to Season 2. I'm sorry, I like Vivica Fox, but she looks like a drag queen. The boss guy is a super jerk, even more so than Mr. Tori Spelling, and while I enjoyed Mark Conselous on All my Children, his character on here is boring. I just started watching the series on Netflix. I am on episode 3 of Season 2 and the acting is so bad and I find myself nodding off. At least I get to see Jess now on Private Practice doing brain surgery. I too watched Charmed, Medium and Bones, but you replace a whole cast with the most boring people you can find, than you have no show. I was also wanting to see what was gonna happen tween Gloria's character and Rick Fox. Oh well.

This show had consistently compelling story lines and a great cast. While it was never going to break the mould, it was a show that I looked forward to watching each week. Caterina Scorsone was particularly good in the lead role, with Justin Louis and Vivica Fox in particular also giving fine performances. I'm not sure why the previous reviewer didn't like the new cast; I prefer them to season one.

It's a great shame it got cancelled when it did. The writers had just started introducing more elements of a Season story arc format which was lifting the show to a new level of interest, and the character's lives were becoming more three-dimensional and interesting than in previous seasons. It was also left on something of a cliffhanger, which is annoying to say the least. Since ratings were consistently high, it seems an odd decision to cease production. If it's not going to be re-scheduled, which in my opinion it should be, Sony could at the very least release Seasons 1 and 3 on DVD.

The cast changes in Season 2 were mistake. The first season help seasoned actors. Even Jessie's character changed her too much. I really was disappointed with the changes.
  • I loved the first season, then the cast was dumped. This show had so much promise then everything changed and the show did a complete nosedive. Whoever made the decision to change the cast the way they did should be drummed out of the business for being a complete moron.

Great show especially if you are into FBI drama's- but with less detail than CSI. The visions give it an extra 'Charmed' like twist with great acting and exciting episodes.I do feel Series 1 had better actors and more likable characters, i preferred Series 1 Jess to series 2 and 3 Jess. I have not seen every episode of series 1 yet but it is already looking good! Series 2 and 3 i enjoyed very much but felt the new characters left Jess out a lot, ignoring her in 'anything for the baby' series 3 part 2, because of this she almost got killed, and ignoring her again in Truth Or Dare (2)series 2 where she took a bullet for Nicole. I guess that draws you closer to Jess but drag me further away from Antonio and Nicole, who otherwise i very much like.A lot of imagination went into the visions and it is recognisable. Great programme! Love it!

    ***Spoiler Alert!!!!****

I liked the show. I think I liked season 1 the best. I liked the steady quietness of Gloria Ruben's character. But I also liked the tough girl of Vivica Fox's character too. They are both fine actresses and were representing different types of women with totally different backgrounds. I enjoyed Caterina Scorsone's character as well. She was delightful in this series. She wasn't bad in Grey's anatomy and their spin-off show Private Practice, but I hate to see brilliant people throw themselves away on drug habits and her character on those 2 shows did exactly that for far too long. So I prefer her in this series by far.

My only BIG gripe was on the last episode they had to BLOW UP Mark Consuelos's character Antonio in the last 15 seconds of THE LAST EPISODE? AFTER Vivica's character Nicole declared her love for him? COME ON! THAT AT LEAST DESERVES A MOVIE OF THE WEEK TO TIE UP ALL LOOSE ENDS FOR YOUR FAITHFUL FANS!!!

So when the big wigs of Tv-dom do that kind of $#/T I knock stars off. I do not like to be left hanging! Especially knowing there will NEVER be a conclusion. At least with a book, you have a chance the author will conclude it in the next one.

    Warning: Spoilers
I really thought this was going to be my cup of tea and it wasn't too bad when Gloria Reuben was in it but as soon as Vivica A. Fox took over it became totally unbelievable and the acting and directing is truly awful. I really like anything with the supernatural in and I love "Medium" with Patricia Arquette and also enjoy the old episodes of "Charmed" but this is just laughable. I think it has to do with the really bad acting of Vivica ( I don't dislike her ) but she delivers her lines so badly. I call it over acting, like every thing she says is exaggerated. am I the only one who thinks this? I cannot understand why this will nor be accepted. I have seen plenty of comments only a couple of lines long and this tells me I have to write 10 lines. this is the first time I've sent any comments in so I'd appreciate a little help with how it works. this programme does not warrant 10 lines!
  • I just had a chance to watch the pilot episode and Caterina Scorsone is amazing as Jess Mastriani, I sincerely hope this show gets a long run. The interplay between the characters is well crafted and I very easily bought into the premise. There was something about the understated & matter of fact way that Caterina Scorsone delivers her character's gift that works well for `suspension of disbelief'

It was also a joy to see Alberta Watson playing a mom, she scared the heck out of me when she played Madeline from `Nikita'. Writer Producers Davis & Laurin deliver great characters. I hope that this show us given a chance to build an audience.
  • this show is the best show ever i have seen every single episode some of them 2 or 3 times. i cant wait for the new season to come out and if u think this show is bad then just keep watching it gets a lot better this show rocks. well i hope this show never sells out because i don't think i could live with out it.i know know about 100 other people that would say the same thing and by the way i liked the second season a lot better than the first. and Vivca has to be the best actor i have ever seen in my entire life.each show just keeps getting better and better and i feel that in another year this show is going to be a great hit if they just put in some advertising.
  • I can't believe I had not seen this until now!! But as much as I hate to say the new cast, and especially Vivica Fox is why I couldn't continue to watch it. That first FBI agent was a beast and her acting intrigued me to binge watch. Her acting made me believe the story was real and I wanted to help. Oh not to mention she had the best love interest. Vivica Fox has and still is not a good actor. She tries to hard to be something she is not instead of becoming the roll she tries to be more than the roll. Now that I have seen her over the years it just not acting it is her. She's done OK for a self but I believe she could've done a lot better and she just starts controlling everything.
  • The ability to suspend disbelief is critical to watching this series. It's definitely not a crime drama, but more fantasy, like Medium. Season one had substantial chemistry between Jess, Brooke and Sunny. It felt like they had developed a real respect and camaraderie for one another early on, eventually building a true partnership between Jess and Brooke and a strong team of four including boss Alan Coyle. The actors and writers did a good job with character development which allowed me to care about what happened next. You got to know each of them through individual and defining character arcs throughout the season. The loss of Gloria Reuben, Justina Machado and even Dean McDermott forced you to start over. There was absolutely no continuity. It was as though Caterina Scorsone kept her character but changed shows, like some sort of thrown together at the last minute spin off. The chemistry never returned. The supporting cast that played Jess's family, an integral part of her life, just faded away as well. The show was okay after that but I never managed to get invested in the characters. They had no depth. The acting was average, the writing was average. The only reason season 2 & 3 pull a 6/10 was Scorsone's solid performance. Justin Louis did as good a job as anyone could with a basically one dimensional character, Consuelos was cute and Fox was enthusiastic, but it never got close to season one. Someone did a disservice to the fans when they gutted this show and it never recovered.

You got rid of EVERYONE, really. Ues don't like what did to Jess, that short Farrah Faucet cut he tryna dress sexy. I guess Vivica being Executive Producer got her, her role. I always wanted to be FBI, hit me in head so can see things

i don't know why everyone thinks that the first missing season was better because i saw a few i don't even know when the're on but i didn't really like them. Then i saw the second season and i thought it was great so i watched every week and never missed a single episode if i was going to miss it i asked someone to take it for me or i would tape it. The third season was great also except why do they always have to kill the characters if they are going to leave the show make up some other excuse. also i like the new cast way better. And I'm glad Caterina stayed on the show because she is the best of the cast but the other members are really good to. I like how the show is both funny and exciting. Why did they cancel missing without making a forth season and they canceled it when i was going to see the second part of a to be continued one and i never got to see it. Also if they don't make a forth season i can never see what happens. If anyone knows anything about the forth season or when it is on TV please tell me or put a message on the message board because missing is my favourite show of all time even though i am too young to get all the jokes because I'm only 13

This series is really good, I enjoyed the acting from everyone except the physic. She wasn't too convincing and she smiled at the oddest and most inappropriate times. With this said, the series is excellent, until those last 5 minutes. I do not respect directors that don't give a proper ending to a show and just leave their audience hanging. That's why the 3 star review. Had they not been so inconsiderate to their audience, I would have given it a 9.
  • I really enjoyed both this series and Wild Card when they debuted last year.

Both series were completely revamped for their second seasons. While I don't feel Wild Card has suffered that much for the changes, I am very disappointed in what they've done to Missing, aka 1-800-Missing (poor show, it didn't even get to keep its title).

For some reason, probably just chemistry, the teaming of Caterina Scorsone and Gloria Reuben worked better than does Scorsone and Viveca Fox. The idea this year, apparently, was to make the series more intense, with Scorsone's character becoming FBI. Gone are her family and all the things that gave this series a lighter touch. Also, the visions seem less integral to the story lines.

I think my biggest gripe is the theme song is gone. I just loved the old one "This dream is real...take a look around..." It had a more lyrical quality - but then, so did the show.
  • I love this show! I just saw there are only 3 seasons. I really hope the will make more. I dont usually get into very many shows, but i am this.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Just watched this series. Season 1 great. Season 2 & 3. Phony, disappointing. Gloria Reuban great actress played FBI as truthful as she can. Other seasons was a joke to the FBI. Many things stupid acting claiming gun-ho agents. Fox played a sassy ass agent. Not happening in trying to make a show as close to real. And the bossy "i am king" boss, dont happen. Season 1 Gloria Reuben play true down to earth people, can be FBI that season1 made it real like reacting a real story. As Jess grew seams her FBI skills got her more in trouble than not. Many time she was caught with a gun at her. Made to seem still kid like.
  • I "stumbled upon" 1-800-Missing totally by accident while looking for something worthwhile to watch since summer brings a lot of not worth my eyesight drivel. It was refreshing, had all the right ingredients to keep me clicking on episodes as fast as they would load. I know how "old" the show is but, it was great. The cast needs to know what a fantastic job they did. I loved it! Truly an enjoyable watch.

The casts acting skills were equal to today's skills. They showed emotion when a sad situation occurred, there were in house relationships but, the actors did not allow these to interfere with their work ethic. Just good acting with great writers & a good plot.
