World War II is slowly receding into people's memories but rationing still exists and there are many scars that will not heal. Two families, the Haywards and the Warringtons, deal with the pressures of post-war Britain.
Intentionally grim drama serial regarding the return from the Second World War of the children of two northern families. The Haywards are staunch labour supporters, the Warringtons owners of a soon to be nationalised coal mine.
A riveting story exploring the differing effects of the Labour election victory on working class and upper class life, as well as the disruptive effect of war on the love lives of the younger members of the families.
It boasts a good cast and solid writing and is long overdue for revival on a cable channel or release on DVD.
The Academy inevitably missed a few gems for 2021 Best Picture nominees. Here are some great movies worth streaming that you won't see at the Oscars this year.
