New Line Cinema may be known as the "House That Freddy Built," but there's no doubt that founder Bob Shaye certainly laid the foundation. A prolific producer who has helped hundreds of movies see the light of day, Shaye (who went on to co-found Unique Features with Michael Lynne after parting ways with New Line) returns to the director's chair with Ambition, a new psychological thriller about a violinist who finds herself surrounded by death and obsession in the days leading up to her biggest performance. With Ambition now in theaters and on VOD and digital platforms from Shout! Studios, Daily Dead caught up with Shaye to discuss his return to directing for the first time since 2007's The Last Mimzy, collaborating with his sister Lin (who he calls the "Betty White of horror"), and he also reflected on workin with Wes Craven during the now legendary filming of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The Wolfe Releasing company has acquired the U.S. digital and DVD rights to the film "Five Dances." The director Alan Brown ("Private Romeo", "Book of Love") teamed up once again with cinematographer Derek McKane to capture the story of Chip (Ryan Steele's first film role) as he joins a small dance company in and around Soho. There Chip is initiated into the rites of passage of a New York dancer's life, where discipline and endless hard work, the fear of not being good enough, and his first-ever love affair unfolds. "Five Dances" will debut on VOD and DVD in 2014, following a limited theatrical release beginning October 4th. "Alan Brown is an enormously talented writer-director and we’re thrilled to release his wonderful new film," said Wolfe President Maria Lynn. "As emotionally nuanced as his innovative gay romance, "Private Romeo," we're confident that audiences will adore Five Dances as much as we do.

Bryce Dallas Howard in ‘Jurassic World’? Howard possibly the next female star in ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise Bryce Dallas Howard, Rush director Ron Howard’s daughter perhaps best known for playing the Vengeful Vampire Victoria in David Slade’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is "in talks" to star in Jurassic World aka Jurassic Park 4, to be directed by Safety Not Guaranteed‘s Colin Trevorrow. At this stage, it’s unclear what exactly Howard would be doing in Jurassic World — well, except that her (potential) character will somehow become entangled with dinosaurs and that there’ll be lots of green screens on the set. (See also: “‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow. Why Him?“) (Photo: Bryce Dallas Howard.) According to various online reports, Universal had sets its sights on Bryce Dallas Howard a while back, but production was halted after Trevorrow took a pass on Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver’s Jurassic World draft.

Simon Denny Baker was born in Launceston, Tasmania on July 30, 1969. He is 5' 10". His parents, Barry and Elizabeth Baker moved to New Guinea in 1972. Shortly after, his parents divorced. His mother later re-married a butcher named Tom Denny and they lived in Sydney with his sister, Terri. Simon attended Ballina High School. After a time, his mother moved to New South Wales where Simon grew up. He did not know that Denny was not his real father's name. Being raised near the ocean developed his love for the sea and all things water-based, such as surfing and water polo. He recalled, "I didn't grow up with money, but I grew up with a lot of space...I was committed to the ocean." After graduating high school he returned to Sydney and intended to become a nurse, but didn't finish his degree. (Nurse Baker has a nice ring to it.) Thereafter he worked in menial jobs,...

[1] The apple often doesn't fall far from the tree in Hollywood, as evidenced by the number of Hollywood offspring who've grown up to become Hollywood players in their own right. Sofia Coppola and Jason Reitman became directors, just like their fathers, while Jeff Bridges, Kate Hudson and Colin Hanks all became actors, just like their parents. Now, actor-turned-director Ron Howard's daughter Bryce Dallas Howard is poised to follow her father's footsteps by making the leap from acting to writing and directing. Howard's first feature as a director will be The Originals, a New York City-based drama about 20somethings. The original (heh) script was written by Howard herself and her writing partner/brother-in-law Dane Charbonneau. Read more about the project and watch Howard's very first directorial effort, the short film Orchids, after the jump. Howard and Charbonneau wrote the screenplay [2] for The Originals in 2009, at which point it...

.. Most recently (aside from the news of her being cast in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse for former Rachelle Lefevre role Victoria), Bryce Dallas Howard wrote a screenplay entitled The Originals that Ron Howard will be directing. In an interview that she had with Cinema Spy in June about her role in Terminator Salvation, Howard talked about walking onto a franchise set with returning actors such as Christian Bale ... In 2004's Book Of Love, though, Howard really got her start with the role of Heather. That same year, her major starring role as Ivy in M. Night Shyamalan's feature film The Village made its way to the big screen. She would later return to working with Shyamalan on Lady In The Water. Howard has also appeared in films such as Manderlay, As You LIke It, Orchids (a short), Spider-Man 3, and Terminator Salvation ...
