Mean Girls

FAQ

Evanston, Illinois, a wealthy suburb of Chicago.

At one point, Cady says "I had a lot of friends in Africa... But so far, none in Evanston." Also, the announcer at the math contest calls it the "Illinois High School Mathletes State Championship." The school is called North Shore High School; North Shore is a region north of Chicago on the edge of Lake Michigan. The Plastics visit Old Orchard Mall (now called Westfield Old Orchard), located in nearby Skokie.

However, the movie was not filmed there. It was mostly filmed in Toronto at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute and Malvern Collegiate Institute, as well as at Montclair High School in Montclair, New Jersey. The mathletes compete at University of Toronto's Convocation Hall, and the mall scenes were filmed at Sherway Gardens, Toronto, which does not resemble Old Orchard Mall.
