Kevin Hart has made peace with his father.
The 37-year-old comedian -- who often talks about his complicated relationship with his dad, Henry Witherspoon, in his stand-up routines -- opened up about where they stand now during his appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday. Hart talked about his healthy relationship with his own kids, and how his father shaped how he is as a parent.
"My kids think I’m dope!" Hart said, referring to his 12-year-old daughter Heaven and 9-year-old son Hendrix with his first wife, Torrei. "And that’s what makes me happy, like, my kids actually think I’m the coolest dad on the planet. ... I know why I am the way that I am, my dad has a lot to do with that -- the mistakes that my dad made, you know, the decisions to do drugs, being in and out of jail, in and out...

''This message goes out to all haters. Without you, there is no us. By us, I mean people that simply want to be great and achieve unbelievable things in life," Hart said. "When you do that, you give haters more reason to hate. So naturally, we get joy and excitement over giving you things to talk negatively about."
"At the end of the day, if you have no haters, I mean, nobody is doing anything right in the world. Haters only hate the things they wish they could do. That being said, are you a hater, or are you on the other side, fueling the hate. I suggest that we all fuel the hate...

French-Canadian filmmaker Philippe Falardeau has actually been making movies for almost twenty years, but it wasn’t until about 2011 when he first started getting attention for his drama Monsieur Lazhar, which was nominated for a foreign language Oscar. Falardeau’s 2014 movie The Good Lie, didn’t get much notice despite starring Reese Witherspoon and being released by Warner Bros. Therefore, he hasn’t quite made the waves into Hollywood as his country-mates Denis Villeneuve or Jean-Marc Vallée (Wild).
Undaunted, Falardeau decided to take on the story of Bayonne, New Jersey boxer Chuck Wepner, who famously went up against Ali at the height of his success in the ‘70s and managed to go 15 rounds before the fight was called due to Wepner’s famed “bleeding” during fights. Wepner was alternately known as “The Bayonne Brawler” and “The Bayonne Bleeder.”

Chord Overstreet is looking quite different these days compared to his babyface era back when he was on Glee. The pop singer made waves during his run on the musical drama where he played character Sam Evans for nearly 100 episodes over the span of five years. Now, sporting some facial hair and a look that screams Nashville, Overstreet unveils the music video to his first single, “Homeland.”
Solo, non-Glee related material has been planned for quite a while, but it wasn’t until “Homeland” that we got our first proper taste. A pop-centric track entitled “Beautiful Girl” hit the Internet all the way back in 2012, and whatever music Overstreet was working on then clearly never transferred over to what he’s doing now. “Homeland” is a pop-rock ballad with some light country influence, and it’s a promising look into what an album might sound like.

Does Scott Disick miss Kourtney Kardashian? Last month, days after they split, he had told friends he was "doing good." During an appearance at a Las Vegas nightclub last week, Disick, 32, seemed more ambivalent while talking to reporters. On Friday night, Disick posted on his Instagram page a photo that was taken at the wedding of J.J. Corsini, a friend of his Kourtney's brother Rob Kardashian, and Elizabeth Condon. It shows him holding a place card that reads, "Scott Disick Guest." "When u realize the grass isn't always greener," he said. Kourtney has not commented. "Go get your Beautiful Girl and wonderful family back...

If you are like me, you probably have a nostalgic heart. The fact that you read Cinema Retro is a major clue. Have you ever yearned to spend an evening in the past, a la Gil (Owen Wilson) in Woody Allen's “Midnight in Paris?” What if I told you how to experience an evening with Josephine Baker, Fanny Brice, Marion Davies, Will Rogers and Florenz Ziegfeld for a show at his famous theater that is hosted by Eddie Cantor? Would you go?
While real life can not actually bring you back in time to do so, Cynthia Von Buhler can, and has, with her new iTheater production “Ziegfeld's Midnight Frolic” current running on Friday and Saturday evenings at the Liberty Theater on 42nd Street in NYC. Cynthia's previous interactive and immersive shows “The Bloody Beginning” and “The Brothers Booth” were wonderful productions that brought audience members...

There was a time, not very long ago, when obtaining a decent copy of David Lynch’s first masterpiece, Eraserhead, was problematic. Selected in 2004 for preservation in the National Film Registry, nearly four decades of overriding nearly every other piece of flotsam and jetsam comprising the cult classic continuum, one of the most exquisite directorial debuts of all time gets a lavish Criterion Collection treatment. A film whose aural devices equal its bizarre and unforgettable visuals, outside of a theatrical screening, it’s the definitive way to experience this dream of dark and troubling things.
To outline the narrative of Eraserhead feels rather reductive since the film is a visual and auditory experience that requires first hand exposure. But, basically, it’s about a guy named Henry Spencer (Jack Nance) who is forced to marry a neurotic girlfriend, Mary X (Charlotte Stewart) because she gave birth to a creature/baby he impregnated her with.

For Sarah Silverman, this has been a week of good news and bad news. First, the bad: On Monday, it was reported, she and boyfriend of five years, Jimmy Kimmel broke up. Now, the good: On Thursday Silverman, 37, was one of those lucky enough to be nominated for an Emmy. But, now for the weird news: the TV Academy nod is linked to what she did on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, an over-the-top music video in which she and the Sexiest Man Alive flaunted their (fictitious and funny) affair to Kimmel, all set to music in a ditty titled, "I'm...
