Maggie Peyton, the new owner of Herbie, Number 53, the free-wheelin' Volkswagen bug with a mind of its own, puts the car through its paces on the road to becoming a NASCAR competitor.
Most of the scenes shot at Auto Club Speedway were during the pace laps of the Target House 300, a NASCAR Xfinty Series race; and the Pop Secret 500, a NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
Herbie, she's too young for you.
In the final race scene, Maggie's hair goes from in front of her face to behind her ears when she first puts on her helmet, with no time for her to have made the change. When she wins the race and removes her helmet, her hair is still behind her ears, yet, when she stands up to face the crowds, her hair is over her face again.
The opening credits is a tribute to Herbie's career, with clips from all his previous movies, excluding The Wonderful World of Disney: The Love Bug (1997), leading up to where he is now in the events of the film.
