Maggie Peyton, the new owner of Herbie, Number 53, the free-wheelin' Volkswagen bug with a mind of its own, puts the car through its paces on the road to becoming a NASCAR competitor.
When Trip Murphy (Matt Dillon) first appears, he just signed a race fan's forehead "Tex". Dillon starred in Tex (1982). (Actually, if you pay attention to detail, his signature says, "Trip".)
I'm being carjacked by my own car!
At the NASCAR race, we see Herbie's oil tank leaking. Kevin asks Sally if she has an extra oil tank. We see the tank replacing the other one. Yet when Trip is pushing Herbie up against the wall, we see the oil tank leaking again. It is actually the same one used before the replacement.
The opening credits is a tribute to Herbie's career, with clips from all his previous movie, excluding to his "Wonderful World of Disney" film, leading up to where he is now in the events of the film.
