Maggie Peyton, the new owner of Herbie, Number 53, the free-wheelin' Volkswagen bug with a mind of its own, puts the car through its paces on the road to becoming a NASCAR competitor.
Some deleted and alternate footage appears in the movie's trailer: A shot of Charisma (Jill Ritchie) in the kitchen saying "Whoa". The shot of the Mexican-looking guy in the crowd lowering his glasses is flipped, though the text on the signs in the background ... ...
Come on Maggie!... I mean, Maxi!
About an hour into the film, as Herbie's being pulled away on the tow truck, we can see from his point of view that Maggie's helmet is lying on the ground several feet in front of her. This makes sense as she threw it on the ground and walked a bit away from it a few minutes earlier. However in an overhead shot, the helmet has moved next to Maggie, although she's still standing in the same spot. Also, while Herbie's being pulled away, the fan stands inexplicably disappear leaving Maggie and some fans standing in the middle of the desert.
The opening credits is a tribute to Herbie's career, with clips from all his previous movie, excluding to his "Wonderful World of Disney" film, leading up to where he is now in the events of the film.
