The fabled romantic Giacomo Casanova, after failing to win the affection of the Venetian woman Francesca Bruni, strives to discover the real meaning of love.
During the short sword fight at the end of the film when they are running away Oliver Platt takes off his cape and fights with it just as Oliver Reed did as Athos in The Three Musketeers (1973). Oliver Platt played Porthos in the 1993 version of The Three Musketeers (1993).
You've sullied my love. Victoria Donato is my fiancée.
Casanova: Is she?
Giovanni Bruni: Yes. In the sense that I am going to marry her.
Casanova: Ah. Well, she never mentioned that.
Giovanni Bruni: Of course she didn't. I haven't asked her yet.
The character name Victoria uses the Spanish or Latin spelling, rather than the Italian spelling Vittoria.
