Shaitaan
Starring: R. Madhavan, Ajay Devgn, Jyotika
Directed by Vikas Bahl
Vikas Bahl’s Shaitaan is not your typical dreary eerie shiver giver with creaking doors and shrieking banshees. This is far scarier. The evil is one of us. A charming bloke named Vanraj who can be just anyone: the friendly neighbourhood fix-it guy, the ever-smiling insurance agent or the benign banker, anyone you don’t mind accessing your home.
The script allows Madhavan to penetrate a normal upwardly mobile middleclass family (far more posh than in the original Gujarati film Vansh) with tha tever-grin countenance, and then create a hair-raising havoc.
Never before has Madhavan’s natural effortless charms been put to use with such frightening alacrity. One minute he is the coolest Uncle on the block , playing the friendly confidante to a teenaged girl. The next minute he is growling menacing beast of a man ordering the young girl to slap her father,...

Mani Ratnam's 1988 melodrama Tamil melodrama Agni Natchathiram is now being remade into Hindi by one of his most ardent disciples Bejoy Nambiar. Nambiar has been closely associated with Mani Ratnam and has assisted him on several of his films. When Bejoy made his directorial debut with Shaitaan, Mani Ratnam went out of his way to support his protege. It therefore comes as no surprise to know that Bejoy will now remake a Mani Ratnam film. However the fact that Agni Natchathiram has already been re-made into Hindi does make Bejoy's aspirations somewhat redundant. Mani's film was remade in 1992 as Vansh with Siddharth Ray and Sudesh Berry cast as two warring step brothers. The film directed by action director Pappu Varma was a stunted stilted stiff and vapid remake of Mani's film. It bombed. Bejoy's film will star Harshvardhan Rane and Vicky Kaushal as the step brothers. When I asked...

We just love the way Karan Johar manages to be on good terms with almost everyone in the industry. KJo, who wanted to work with Salman Khan again (he had done a guest appearance in his debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai), thought it might be a tad difficult considering the famous Salman-srk spat. But Karan being Karan, he might just have managed to work his charm on B-Town's famous bad boy.
If sources are to be believed, Karan has approached Salman to star in Parvin Dabbas's Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande, a politics-based comedy about a group of four people. The film already boasts of a casting of Anupam Kher, Parvin Dabbas, Vansh Bharadwaj (“Heavens on Earth”) among others. What's interesting to note here is that this very unique and hatke title was suggested to Parvin by a follower on Twitter. And Karan, who came across Parvin's story, found both the...

Parvin Dabbas is a name that was on everyone's lips a few years ago, courtesy his truer-than-thou performance in the by-now-cult film Khosla Ka Ghosla. Readers may recollect that the film had Anupam Kher as the retired simpleton father and his long standing fight with the builder mafia, with his two sons by his side, played by Ranvir Shorey and Parvin Dabbas. Life, now, comes a full circle for Parvin as he turns director and directs none other than Anupam Kher in his directorial venture. Speaking exclusively about the film to Bollywood Hungama, Parvin said, "My film is set in the rural as well as urban Delhi. It's an action comedy with a political twist, and centers around a gang of four guys. It's about a certain situation they get into and how they deal with it. The film stars Vansh Bharadwaj, newcomers Kuldeep and Ashish Nair alongwith a new girl named Tina Desai,...
