I saw this series back in 1972 during my youth in England. It was originally presented as mystery/suspense. I was intrigued and watched them all. The truth was that these episodes were like something from Twilight Zone or Night Gallery. Or better, I think that Groundhog Day would apply.
I recall one episode well: A young man awakens and finds himself in a room with bloodied bodies. Clearly, this is the scene of a terrible fight and murder. The young man cannot remember who he is or how he got there. He leaves the room confused and wanders outside. He is in a small town. He has no identification. He finds that some people recognize him and are furious with him. He tries to explain that he has no idea what they are talking about. All he wants are answers. Sadly, nobody believes his innocence and thinks his amnesia is just an excuse to avoid guilt. But what did he do? Finally, a young woman appears and tells the young man to meet later at an address. She is friendly and seems to believe he is truly innocent. The young man, thinking everything will be explained, goes to the address and realizes all too late that it is the place where he woke up! There is a terrible fight when some people spot him coming in. The episode ends with everyone on the floor, bloodied, and exactly how it all began. We now realize that this is an endless loop.
As I remember, the other episodes were similar. A person starts out in a bad situation and tries to fix it. At the end, they are exactly at the beginning again.
This was well done and also depressing. Clearly, it left an impression on me, as I am writing a summary about it nearly 40 years later!
