The infamous story of Benjamin Barker, aka Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett.
Imelda Staunton was considered for the role of Mrs. Lovett, but lost out to Helena Bonham Carter. She would go on to play Mrs. Lovett in the West End production of Sweeney Todd in 2012, alongside Michael Ball as Sweeney Todd.
I have sailed the world, beheld its wonders, from the Dardanelles to the mountains of Peru. But there's no place like London.
Sweeney Todd: No, there's no place like London.
Anthony Hope: Mr. Todd?
Sweeney Todd: You are young. Life has been kind to you. You will learn.
The razors are said by Todd to be silver, but if they were genuine silver they would have been badly tarnished after 15 years.
However, given Mrs. Lovett's feelings for Todd, first revealed in the song "My Friends" which immediately follows that line, it isn't out of the question to think that she polished the razors occasionally and kept them in good condition.
