By the late '80s, "Gilligan's Island" had become a pop culture fixture. Though Sherwood Schwartz's sitcom only lasted for three seasons and 98 episodes from 1964 to 1967, it was heavily syndicated throughout the '70s and '80s, ensuring new generations became familiar with Gilligan and his fellow castaways. Not only that, the show produced two animated spin-offs with "The New Adventures of Gilligan" (1974-75) and "Gilligan's Planet" (1982-83). What's more, the original cast returned for three live-action TV movies: "Rescue From Gilligan's Island" (1978), "The Castaways on Gilligan's Island" (1979), and "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" (1981). So, by the end of the 1980s, the "Gilligan's" universe was most certainly etched into the public's collective consciousness.
But you could also argue that it was waning in popularity. The last live-action TV movie, "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" — which almost featured a different team entirely — was not a big ratings success...

Desperate Housewives had a habit of killing off its characters, including James Denton’s Mike Delfino in the final season.
ABC’s hit drama Desperate Housewives, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012, was a soap opera to its core. The four women who made up its main cast were constantly finding themselves involved in betrayal, petty backstabbing, infidelity, and illegal activity.
Throughout its run, many of Desperate Housewives’ primary and supported characters dropped like flies, including Mike Delfino, husband of Teri Hatcher’s Susan Mayer.

Just miles from Hollywood, nestled in the San Gabriel Valley, lies the town of Altadena, which was decimated by the Eaton Fire. Among the thousands of structures burnt down were a number of historic buildings used in movies and TV series.
As the area reopened two weeks after the disaster hit, Deadline was able to survey some of the destruction. Below is a photo record of what is left of the famous buildings, along with pictures of what they looked like before the fire, including images of how they will be remembered from scenes in films and TV shows.
The houses lost include the mansion seen on Max’s award-winning comedy series Hacks, a 1915 Spanish Colonial Revival, with only its facade still standing.

Not many shows have left a lasting impact in TV history as Frasier did. The NBC sitcom aired from 1993 until 2004, and while it was a spinoff of Cheers, it became so much more. The series had sharp dialogue, smart humor, and the perfect cast one could imagine, which earned the show a record-breaking 37 Emmy Awards during its original run.

Eva Longoria's John Wick involvement is a surprising but pivotal part of the iconic action franchise. Known for her work in Hollywood spanning the past few decades, Longoria has acted in, produced for, and directed countless films and television shows in the English and Spanish languages. Longoria is immediately recognizable for her acting in the award-winning comedy-drama Desperate Housewives, the well-established soap opera The Young and the Restless, and nostalgic films like The Heartbreak Kid (2007) and Over Her Dead Body (2008).
While many know Longoria from her acting achievements, she has just as much experience behind the scenes as she does out in the limelight. Longoria has directed major projects, from the 2023 biographical comedy Flamin' Hot to episodes of Blackish. She is also credited with producing several entertainment favorites, including the hit series Devious Maids, and more surprisingly, the first film in the billion-dollar John Wick franchise. It takes less than five minutes for Starz and Channel 4’s new six-part series The Couple Next Door to make its first reference to Desperate Housewives.
Pete (Alfred Enoch), a journalist at a struggling newspaper, and Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson), a pregnant primary school teacher, are moving into a cul-de-sac in Leeds. They’re reflecting on a version of suburbia that’s more American, or even fictional American, in nature than British, so the comparison is close to inevitable; Pete looks at the dog-walking, lawn-tending, externally obsessed neighborhood they’re moving into and assumes a communal beneath-the-surface rot that does, indeed, eventually emerge.
It’s the last Desperate Housewives reference in the series because, to put it simply, The Couple Next Door isn’t finally all that much like Desperate Housewives, especially the top-tier early seasons of Desperate Housewives that one might want to be compared to. The adaptation of a Dutch format — Nieuwe Buren,...

Eva Longoria and her foundation are donating $1 million to aid those impacted by the fires currently raging across Los Angeles.
Longoria is supporting the Latino Community Foundation — led by Julián Castro — as well as the California Community Foundation with the funds, aimed at addressing the immediate needs as well as long-term recovery for those affected by both the Palisades and Eaton fires. Thousands have been forced to evacuate since the blazes broke out on Tuesday, destroying many homes and business and claiming 24 lives so far.
The former Desperate Housewives star’s $1 million donation comes from the $50 million Bezos Courage and Civility Award she was awarded in March, as part of the Jeff Bezos’ annual prize to individuals who contribute to society significantly. Longoria has just 10 years to find a worthy charitable cause on which to spend that money, and it seems supporting the L.A. fire recovery is her first course of action.

Hacks is back on top at the Golden Globes. The reigning Best Comedy Series Emmy champ won the Globe equivalent, Best Comedy/Musical Series, for the second time on Sunday — and in doing so, it joined an elite club.
The Max series is now the second show after All in the Family to reclaim the comedy/musical series prize after suffering a loss. Nine other shows have won the category more than once, but they all scored their awards in consecutive years: two-time champs The Carol Burnett Show (1970-71), Barney Miller (1976-77), Fame (1983-84), Ally McBeal (1998-99), Desperate Housewives (2005-06), and Glee (2010-11); and three-time champs Taxi (1979-81), The Golden Girls (1986-88), and Sex and the City (2000-02).
All in the Family, the sole four-time champ, won three in a row from 1972-74 and once more in 1978 with two losses in between (it had an additional nomination in 1979). Hacks prevailed...

‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Trailer: A Murder, A Buried Body & Secrets Galore In NBC Drama Series

We’re getting the first look at Grosse Pointe Garden Society, NBC’s upcoming drama series from Good Girls creator Jenna Bans, Bill Krebs and Universal Television.
“Here’s what they don’t tell you when you join a garden club,” begins a sneak peek trailer. “To make something grow, something has to die.” Segue to “I can’t believe we’re burying a body.”
Written by Bans and Krebs, Grosse Pointe Garden Society follows four members of a suburban garden club — Birdie (Melissa Fumero), Catherine (Aja Naomi King), Brett (Ben Rappaport) and Alice (AnnaSophia Robb) — who find their lives intertwined by scandal, mischief and a shared secret – a murder no one wants to talk about. As dark truths begin to rot their lives under the surface, they struggle to remain as perfect as the flowers blooming in their garden above.
Alexander Hodge, Nancy Travis, Matthew Davis and Felix Wolfe also star.

NBC is diving into the murderous world of a suburban garden club with Grosse Pointe Garden Society.
Based on the trailer alone, we’re already invested.
It’s hard to get a read on a show from a 60-second trailer, but the hook is compelling, and the cast is an embarrassment of riches, meaning we should be in for one of the more buzzy shows of the 2024-25 TV season.

Grosse Pointe Garden Society is taking root amid murder and mayhem.
NBC on Friday released the first trailer for the forthcoming drama, which premieres Sunday, Feb. 23, at 10/9c. (People was the first to report the news.) In the series, a group of suburbanites reveal the first rule of their local gardening club: Everyone must have each others’ backs. Shouldn’t be too hard, in theory, except that Grosse Pointe Garden Society looks like it’s dealing with homicide, arson and more seedy misbehavior. (Oh my!)

Why Is Desperate Housewives Creator Marc Cherry Jealous Of The Real Housewives Franchise? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
When one hears the name Housewives, only two shows pop into one’s mind: The Real Housewives and Desperate Housewives. It is no secret that the latter came first and became successful, making the word “housewives” itself a household name in television and entertainment terms during the 2000s.
While Desperate Housewives is a fictional comedy-drama series, The Real Housewives has become a reality television franchise. Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, recently spoke about the Bravo show’s capitalization on the housewives term and why he envies the reality series.

Desperate Housewives showrunner Marc Cherry knows that Real Housewives may have been inspired by his ABC show, but he isn’t upset about the Bravo franchise’s success.
The writer-producer revealed to People that he understands why the Real Housewives production team developed the show, which premiered in 2006 in Orange County, California, following the success of Desperate Housewives, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.
“They didn’t crib my name, to be fair to them,” Cherry said about the Bravo franchise in a story published Thursday. “They just used the word. Our show came out, and they capitalized on that. And you know what? That’s the capitalistic system.”
The showrunner added that people often confuse the two shows because the Real Housewives franchise “continues to be out there,” producing new series and spinoffs. Cherry lists Tommy Tune as one of the celebrities who accidentally swapped the two series in conversation.

Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, is weighing in on The Real Housewives franchise, the Bravo reality TV series inspired by the ABC dramedy.
Following the success of Desperate Housewives, which ran from 2004 to 2012, about a group of women living in the fictional Wisteria Lane cul-de-sac, Bravo followed with a “real-life” version in 2006 following a group of women living behind the private gated community of Coto de Caza in Orange County, California.
Cherry is not upset that The Real Housewives of Orange County was inspired by his hit series.

James Denton’s “Desperate Housewives” character Mike Delfino was shot 12 years ago, much to the dismay of many of the show’s fans. But when asked by People which episode of the series was his favorite, Denton immediately pointed to Delfino’s demise. “The one where I got shot,” he said. “It’s always fun to get chills on camera.”
Denton also told the outlet about the rigging and special effects that made the shooting death believable on camera. “You have one tube up one leg of your pants that has the blood to your chest, and you have a wire running down the other leg. This guy is out in the bushes with a detonator to set the blast off,” he explained.

We all have our personal experiences with chaotic energy from time to time. Some of us live it on a day-to-day basis. When I was in the Marines, we had a saying: “Hurry up and wait.”
But when that “wait” time was finally over, buckle up. But it’s not the hot mess of chaotic energy that makes these shows so popular. That’s just part of the formula.
No show survives on a fast pace and too many subplots. Season 3 of Justified, Season 8 of Game of Thrones, and the random, often pointless subplots of What If…? are just a few examples.
(Paul Sarkis/Showtime)
Within the swirling madness and pandemonium, there has to be an element of stability—a tale that takes us from point A to Point B, regardless of the roller coaster’s track design in between.
If you’re in the mood to watch something a touch frantic,...

"Kindergarten Cop" is the quintessential 90s movie. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, the defining action star of the era, in a role few thought he could pull off, and it's directed by one of the most prolific filmmakers of the decade. The film also features a cast of young actors just before they went on to achieve major success. Now, we're looking back at the talent involved in "Ghostbusters" director Ivan Reitman's popular 1990 comedy to find out what they're up to these days, mainly because we love reminding ourselves just how old we are.
For those unaware, "Kindergarten Cop" follows Detective John Kimble (Arnold) as he goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher to bust a dangerous criminal. Like "Twins," Reitman's previous collaboration with Arnold, "Kindergarten Cop" blends comedy with drama, plus a hefty dose of surprisingly violent action, resulting in the perfect movie to show kids of all ages in...

Eva Longoria's only real action role in a forgotten thriller proves the John Wick movies missed an opportunity by not inviting her to the franchise. Longoria might be best known for decidedly non-action fare like Desperate Housewives or Dora and the Lost City of Gold, but she played a key role in the John Wick franchise even happening. When the original movie fell short by $6 million, Longoria came to the rescue (via Business Insider) by writing a large cheque.
Longoria is credited as a producer on John Wick and has confirmed her investment in the 2014 film paid off handsomely - though she regrets not sticking around for the sequels. Given that she essentially saved the project from collapse, it's a shame Longoria hasn't been invited to appear in the movies. Here’s a fun fact to blow your minds: Yes, technically, Knots Landing is a spin-off from mega-hit Dallas. Gary Ewing is the middle brother of Jr and Bobby Ewing, who made one appearance on the Mother Ship show, played by David Ackroyd before Ted Shackelford took over the role for the next decade-plus.
But the original Kl concept pre-dated Dallas. It was supposed to be an American version of the Swedish series Scenes From a Marriage by Ingemar Bergman. That series didn’t get picked up. But when CBS wanted a Dallas spin-off, Lorimar made one of the characters a Ewing, and we were off to the races! You can watch the entire series from the start right here on Amazon Prime. Here’s why you should definitely do that.

“There’s not a ‘why now’ for that show [to have a reboot],” Eva said about producing with purpose. “I mean, some people do reboots because it’s like, ‘Reboot!’ It’s a good title. But I’ve talked to [‘Desperate Housewives’ creator] Marc Cherry a thousand times and it’s like, we fully mined those characters because we were on for a decade and this was 24 episodes a year … That’s a lot of story that you burn through.”
However, she did add, via Variety, “I’d be the first one to sign up! I miss Gaby.”

Eva Longoria wants people to know she’s much more than an actress.
The Desperate Housewives star-turned-director-producer spoke with her co-founder and CEO, Cris Abrego at Content London on Wednesday about their production company, Hyphenate Media Group (Ready for Love, Telenovela, Grand Hotel), to service creator-entrepreneurs.
“We’re both multi-hyphenates,” Longoria said of her and Abrego, also explaining she found herself bored of “reading lines off a page.” She added: “I’m an actress, producer, director, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and we both really saw our industry in Hollywood doesn’t service that mission. It really is an industry that makes you stay in your lane — ‘you’re an actress, not a producer, just keep doing that.’ Let’s start something that’s going to disrupt the industry.”
CEO Abrego concurred, saying: “The truth is this is not for everybody, but some are incredibly ambitious. They want to do multiple projects in multiple formats,...

Eva Longoria doesn’t feel that a “Desperate Housewives” reboot is necessary — but if the right idea came along, she’d be the “first to sign up.”
Longoria made an appearance at Content London on Wednesday for a panel featuring her production company Hyphenate Media Group, which she co-founded with Cris Abrego last year. While discussing the projects Hyphenate is looking for, Longoria noted that “we produce with purpose” and ask the questions “What are you saying?” and “Why now?” That then led her to discuss a potential “Desperate Housewives” reboot.

Eva Longoria wants to keep busy.
The ex-Desperate Housewives star and now-Hyphenate Media boss decried an industry obsession with talent only working across one show at a time.
“Our business is so slow,” said Longoria at Content London. “That’s the problem with the industry it’s like, ‘Wait you can only do one show’ and I’m like, ‘No you can do more things than one’.”
This notion especially applies to women, Longoria joked, who said: “If you want to get something done, then ask a busy woman.”
Hyphenate recently struck a deal with One Day at a Time co-creator Gloria Calderón Kellett, who was previously signed up with Amazon Studios. Speaking alongside each other today, the pair said Kellett being able to work across multiple projects was crucial in her signing with Hyphenate, and she has 23 projects in various stages of development.
