The survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together in order to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island.
The mysterious numbers (4 8 15 16 23 42) are also retired uniform numbers of the New York Yankees (Gehrig/Berra&Dickey/Munson/Ford/Mattingly/Jackie Robinson - all MLB teams, and Mariano Rivera).
Hugo 'Hurley' Reyes:
James "Sawyer" Ford is a career con man with an extensive criminal record, which is covered throughout the series. However, everybody except New Zealanders must get a visa to travel to Australia, and Sawyer never would have been approved. The "character requirement" prevents people with substantial criminal records or known criminal associations from entering Australia.
The strange opening credits were designed by J.J. Abrams on his laptop in black and white as an homage to The Twilight Zone.
