The survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together in order to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island.
Daniel Dae Kim, who is of Korean descent, played a character of Korean descent for the first time in his career. He had previously played Asian characters of other nationalities or characters of unspecified origin but not of his own heritage. Speaking Korean was a challenge as he had not done it much since his childhood, and some viewers noted after the first episodes that it wasn't correct Korean. Carlton Cuse later joked it was 'country Korean'.
Guys... where ARE we?
James "Sawyer" Ford is a career con man with an extensive criminal record, which is covered throughout the series. However, everybody except New Zealanders must get a visa to travel to Australia, and Sawyer never would have been approved. The "character requirement" prevents people with substantial criminal records or known criminal associations from entering Australia.
The strange opening credits were designed by J.J. Abrams on his laptop in black and white as an homage to The Twilight Zone.
