  • Warning: Spoilers
Dating all the way back to Anthony Spinelli's all-star early porn classic (of 1971) "Touch Me", an encounter group is a solid starting point for a sex film, offering both variety and characterization. David Stanley's "Sessions" recognizes that fact, though the self-indulgent auteur uses the occasion for some of his sillier fetishes.

Making the film work is casting hall of famer Sharon Kane as the Group Leader, coaxing the fairly whacked-out folks seeking therapy to spill all their secrets in front of this motley cast of strangers. Briana Banks is the Vivid star for whom this vehicle was fashioned, and it opens up mid-sex scene with the venerable BB taking it in the ass from a very young John Strong. (I just saw BB in a comeback picture for Digital Playground called "Seduced by a MILF" and it's nice to see her back on the scene.)

Her anal fixation is Kane's (and the group's) point of interest, and having big-dicked Joel Lawrence hump her in front of everybody is fairly strange. Cast looks properly bored watching, as the script told them to. Lawrence's problem is premature ejaculation and Banks nastily calls him on it.

Randy Spears is a foot fetishist, as he is in real life (and significantly, so is director Stanley). So his money shot on Michelle Michaels' tootsies after she gives him a most impressive foot job (eliciting cum with no hands involved for a change) is kind of exciting in its own right. Unfortunately, Spears' mannered acting ruins this bit, likely because the character is too close for comfort.

Wendy Devine is the revelation of this cast, a fake redhead cast as a virgin/tease but putting a lie to that with her exuberant sex scene for the group with Eric Masterson.

    SPOILER ALERT:

Michaels is back on action with straight sex but Spears shoots on her feet a second time -no improvement in his situation. Lezley Zen, in the showiest role (and weirdest hairdo) as a Brooklyn hipster/performance artist impresses in a climactic lesbian scene with Briana, causing Kane to blow her cover by masturbating enthusiastically while watching. This sets up Stanley's effective surprise ending: Scene shifts to Kane as a member of another Therapy Group, admitting to living a lie as a sexaholic, pretending to be a therapist when she just wants to witness other people having sex and talking about it.

Production values are dreadful, as this is one of Stanley's many Vivid quickies shot on the fly. His prolific career is based on both economy and a wealth of ideas, offering novelty in porn that I can appreciate even though it's often prey to facetiousness.
