  • Though rooted in the subject of high-priced escorts, Marc Dorcel's "Call Girls de Luxe" more closely resembles his tropical paradise genre - porn's answer to getting away from it all.

Apart from a smattering of untranslated small talk in French, the feature relies solely on voice-over narration, as star Laura Angel portrays an elegant Madam, telling us about her top clients and their sex with her girls, all nicely illustrated in a series of vignettes.

Chief client is wealthy Conny, played by Euro actor Conny Dachs, who I had the misfortune to see in a recent Private Media release "London Love Affairs". Here he gets to have sex on his yacht and the pick of turn of this century Dorcel beauties including Laura and Jane Darling.

Philippe Dean pops up as another client, and so it goes, with the gals all beautiful and glamorized, including the unusual gimmick of them wearing elaborate, fashionable hats (and little else) during their indoor sex scenes. I kept waiting for something interesting (apart from explicit sex to stare at) to happen but no such luck in veteran director Alain Payet's excuse for a screenplay.

One interesting aspect of self-censorship worthy of note: in porn, with its self-appointed "outlaw" mentality and paranoia regarding a crackdown by the local gendarmes, the sex is uncensored but when our leads have sex in a beautiful Rolls Royce, the narration stating Rolls Royce gets bleeped out on the DVD - even though the unwanted product plug is there for anyone to see on screen.
