This is a road movie, where two men drive from Tokyo to Ibusuki, a city at the far south of Kyusyu Island, nearly 1500 km from Tokyo.
Both of them have problems regarding "memory". The young man, hired by the old man to drive, has an aneurysm in the brain. The doctor recommends him to have an operation, but has a risk of losing his memory. If he doesn't have the operation, someday the aneurysm will blowout. He is scared of death. But losing memory also seems like a death. To escape from the fear, he quits a job, and does not contact his lover.
The old man is going to the hospice to receive the passing his ex-wife left for him. They separated 30 years ago. Now he can not even remember her face.
During the travel, the old man tells his story. Gradually, he recollects the past, but still can not remember the ex-wife's face. Through the story and all things he experiences on the travel, the young man gets courage. Even if you lose your memory, if ever there is someone who never forgets you, you can live upon it.
At last the audiences know why the hospice requested the old man to come over, instead of sending her passing by mail. At the scene the old man cries in the flower garden, I could not help tearing.
