In the late 1980s, a low level gangster named Jackie DiNorscio defends himself in court in what became the longest criminal trial in American judicial history.
During filming, Vin Diesel was 37 years old while Giacomo "Jackie" DiNorscio was in his late 40s during the trial on which the film is based.
Giacomo 'Fat Jack' DiNorscio:
Judge Finestein: Yes, Mr. DiNorscio?
Giacomo 'Fat Jack' DiNorscio: Can I talk to you?
Giacomo 'Fat Jack' DiNorscio: I wanna apologize for my action in court before. I want you to understand... whatever I said, I meant no disrespect to you. I respect you more than any other judge I ever faced, and I faced a lot of them...
The Latin motto on the judge's desk "FIAT JUSTICA ET RUAT CAELUM" is wrong. It should be "FIAT JUSTITIA RUAT CAELUM". "JUSTITIA" is spelled wrongly and the "ET" makes nonsense of the motto: "Let Justice Be Done [and] the Sky May Fall"
