A highly intellectual but socially awkward spy is tasked with preventing a terrorist attack from a Russian spy agency.
In the opening scene, there is a picture of a wanted criminal on Max's refrigerator. The name of the criminal is Mr. Big, which is the name of the first villain in the original series Get Smart (1965), and the photograph is a one of Michael Dunn, who played the role.
99 please, nobody here knows we're dating.
The Chief: Yes, they do.
Maxwell Smart: On the cheek.
Agent 99: Give me a little one.
The symphony abruptly skips five and half entire sections as Max, 99 and the Chief run into the concert hall. At the point where the camera shows the red X on Siegfried's score as if the performance is about to end, there are in fact nearly ten minutes remaining in the symphony.
The opening credits are a movie version of Get Smart (1965)'s intro: a montage of Smart going through various doors to reach CONTROL headquarters.
