"Toonami" debuted on the Cartoon Network in 1997, back when the network was just hitting its stride. Cartoon Network debuted in 1992, and originally offered mostly old animated reruns. It was, for years, the best place to find old Droopy cartoons, as well as Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry cartoons, old DC superhero fare, and reruns of Hanna-Barbera trash like "Scooby-Doo" and "The Flintstones."
In 1994, the network had the brilliant idea to repurpose a largely forgotten Hanna-Barbera character named Space Ghost, transforming him into a talk show host. "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" set a new dadaist tone for the Cartoon Network, proving that it could make hip, self-aware, original content in addition to its blocks of reruns. In 1996 and 1997, Cartoon Network launched a quartet of new shows -- "Dexter's Laboratory," "Johnny Bravo," "The Powerpuff Girls," and "Cow and Chicken" -- and their reputation was solidified. It was now a destination station.

Premiering at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, Society of the Snow is Director J.A. Bayona’s take on the story of the infamous 1972 Uruguayan Air Force flight that crashed on a glacier in the heart of the Andes Mountains. Chartering a rugby team to Chile, only 29 of the 45 passengers survived the crash. Finding themselves in one of the world’s toughest environments, they are forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.
Based on the book “La Sociedad de la Nieve” by Pablo Vierci, the film utilizes Vierci’s strong ties to the remaining survivors of the crash, many of whom he knew from childhood. The filmmakers recorded more than 100 hours of interviews with all of the living survivors and the actors had access to them & their families as well.
With a reported budget of around 60-70 million, Bayona spared no expense to bring the highest level of authenticity to the project.

Piers Morgan won’t be winning any points for congeniality with his latest column.
British media personality Morgan savaged the Miss America competition’s decision to rule out physical appearance as a criterion for judging a winner on Tuesday, calling out former Miss America winner and current board chair Gretchen Carlson in particular.
“We are now open, inclusive and transparent,” Carlson is quoted as saying in Morgan’s new column, “and I want to inspire thousands of young people across this country to come and be part of our program. We are not going to judge you on your appearance because we are interested in what makes you you.”

The Miss America contest is killing the swimsuit competition from future editions and vowing to rule out physical appearance as a criterion for judging a winner, the organization announced Tuesday.
“We are no longer a pageant,” Gretchen Carlson, the former Miss America recently named chair of the Miss America Organization board of trustees, said on “Good Morning America.” “We are a competition.”
The organization is also eliminating the evening gown portion of the competition. Instead, contestants representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia will wear attire that makes them feel confident, expresses their personal style and shows how they hope to advance the role of Miss America.
The swimsuit parade will be replaced with a live interactive session with the judges, the organization announced.
