The story does not develop with the strength we anticipated

A two-reel story by Forrest Halsey. The first reel, picturing the barefooted boy and girl in the woods, is very pretty and gets hold of the observer nicely. The second reel, however, where the boy has gone to the city to study art, does not quite come up to expectations. The changes in Jacques' station are too abrupt, giving a "set" effect to the scenes and shattering the element of suspense. The photography is clear and smooth and the acting very capable, but the story does not develop with the strength we anticipated. - The Moving Picture World, May 10, 1913
