Gertie has two suitors, Tommy and Earl. Tommy is bashful while Earl has more brass than a fire-engine. When Tommy arrives Grandpa makes every attempt to make him feel at home but the more he tries the more Tommy is convinced that he is not wanted. Finally Earl arrives and Grandpa issues orders to the butler to throw him out, but the butler throws out Tommy by mistake. So that Tommy can get a chance to propose to Gertie alone, Grandpa phones a detective agency and asks a detective to call. When he arrives, he instructs him to get rid of Earl and promises to pay him $100.00. But the detective also mistakes Tommy for Earl and Tommy is again thrown out. Grandpa refuses to pay the detective until he catches Tommy and brings him to the house so that he can explain and the detective starts in pursuit. That evening, Gertie, Grandpa and Earl go to the casino where everyone is gambling. The chase also leads Tommy with the detective after him to the casino. Tommy is about to be thrown out because he is not in evening clothes when the police raid the place. Tommy believes they are all after him. They capture Vera and Grandpa and put them in the police wagon, but Earl escapes on a farmer's wagon. Tommy finally evades the detectives and dressed in a suit of armor makes his escape on the horse of the wagon in which Earl has hidden. There is a wild chase but the detective finally gets Tommy and Grandpa pays him the $100.00.
