As most Disney squeals do not meet the same standard as the first, this one also falls short. Tarzen 2 had so much potential to be great, it could have been a really cute film about Tarzan's childhood, growing up and trying to fit into the pack. Don't get me wrong the movie did have a few moments that weren't too bad, but it could have been so much better. Tarzen 2 is a great movie for the kids to sit back and enjoy, but not so much appeal for the adults. The one thing I love about the original Disney animated films is that they take an unrealistic fantasy and make it feel realistic by not making it over the top in a childish manner. Its fun to watch a kid who was raised by apes, to grow up and find love and where he belongs. But in this film its far from realistic to watch a little kid save his entire heard of apes from three gigantic apes. Save his mother from falling and save his best friends all with in the span of two minutes. The hero moment was over done and not heartfelt. I feel like this movie was more for a younger audience then all ages.
  • Tarzan II I would say is maybe the best looking of the direct-to- video sequels. I was pretty overwhelmed by the beautiful landscapes and how grand they were made.

To shortly sum up my impression of the idea of making a so-called midquel: I think it was a great idea, because we did not see that much of how Tarzan coped with his identity issues in the original. Is it handled perfectly, you ask? No, not exactly, but when the movie has that theme in its undivided focus it works out well without any need for words. George Carlin's role as Zugor did make a good impression on me, because I was a little skeptical to begin with. He and Tarzan share some heartfelt moments together, even if the pay-off of Tarzan's search for his identity comes off as underwhelming.

The harshest criticism I have towards Tarzan II is that these three apes, Mama Gunda, Kago and Uto were really unnecessary as bad-guys. They could have made the same impact on Tarzan's life with a smaller role. But it could have been awesome to see more of how Sabor thretened the gorillas, because he seemed like a real threat in the original.

Tarzan II is an okay watch, and kids can enjoy the adventure and the comedy while adults may find it pleasant to see the heartfelt moments. Again, this is a Disney sequel so therefore the original is by far a better movie, but with that said, this is not insulting to its predecessor.

Unnecesary sequel from 2005 this time is about Tarzan who came with the idea of making a sequel out of this movie, i would prefer to watch Chicken Little better than this atrocity and i could even watch Tarzan from 1999 which the original version of Tarzan is way better than this.
  • Remember the 'Son of Man' sequence from the original Disney 'Tarzan' film? It showed Tarzan learning how to be an ape man, he grew up - it lasted a few minutes and it was fine. We used our imaginations to fill in the blanks.

Disney obviously felt that more of the blanks needed to be filled in, so we end up with 'Tarzan 2', a misleadingly titled film that is actually a midquel, fleshing out the 'Son of Man' sequence to over an hour.

It's fine, it's ok, it has its moments, but you can almost hear the cash cow being milked.
  • I have been a huge fan of Disney for years, but their sequels have tended to be rather disappointing, with weak scripts and/or bad animation plaguing the productions.

After watching this, I must say, this is one of the best sequels to come from Disney. The animation quality is what most impressed me- it was cinema quality. The action sequences, effects, and the characters themselves were all rendered meticulously, with a lot of attention to light and color given as well.

The characters' acting (both in animation and voice) was very good, and Turk (who I found obnoxious in the first film 'Tarzan') was actually very endearing this time around. I was impressed with the children's voice acting, as they had to carry a good amount of the film, and they managed to do a good job with both the humorous scenes and the few more serious ones.

The adult voice acting was very very good, with some of the original cast such as Glenn Close and Lance Henriksen in the periphery, and the added great talents of George Carline, Estelle Harris, Brad Garret and Ron Pearlman.

It is not a story as grande or powerful as the big Disney classics, and doesn't hold quite as much 'awe' as 'Tarzan', but it was a nice tale for kids, with enough humor and production quality that the adults can enjoy it as well.

    7/10

Hilarious and irresistible animated feature from Disney. The beginning of a legend, after all Tarzan was not always the King of the Jungle. Tarzan(voiced by Harrison Chad)was once an awkward little guy just trying to fit in. One of his missteps put his family in harms way, so he decided they would be better off without him. He finds himself in a family of apes and his life becomes adventurous and a learning experience. His new journey has him coming in contact with the most powerful force around, the mystical Zugor(voiced by George Carlin). Young Tarzan learns that being different is not always a bad thing; and it is wonderful to be close to family and friends. Other voices in this action-packed film for all ages: Brad Garrett, Glenn Close, Brenda Grate, Lance Henriksen and April Winchell. There is also some new inspirational tunes from song-smith Phil Collins.

I liked this movie, it's cute and shows Tarzan's problems as a child. You can see many of the characters of the first movie again, And see a little bit of Tarzan's childhood.

But I preferred the first movie, since there is more action and comedy, and, we cannot forget, romance.

When I heard that Disney's studios were going to do a second movie of Tarzan, I was thinking that they were going to show Tarzan's and Jane's life in the jungle. So, for me, I stayed a bit disappointed when I saw that it was about Tarzan's childhood. But okay. It's Disney, so, it's cute.
  • (2005) Tarzan II ANIMATION/ CHILDREN/ ADVENTURE

After the moderate success of Disney's animated "Tarzan" cartoon movie released in 1999, the studio decided to produce a sequel which went straight-to-rental and it's a very good move on their part because that's where it needs to go, since it's just a simplistic recycled mess out of many other Disney classics that came before it especially the supposedly comedy scenes! Retelling the "Tarzan" legend created by Edgar Rice Burroughs -Disney style centering way too long about 'how come young Tarzan can't do some of the same things as his other apes friends' besides not looking like one almost made me like not wanting to care at this point, for as the movie progresses with the help of an older ape, he was able to identify the features he already has such as his using hands and his feet but it's so boring. For children, they may suck up to this since they may not have seen many as much as you, but a warning to all parents and adults the only reason to see this (if theirs any reason at all all) is to hear some of our favorite actors/ actresses doing the voices which can also be distracting since a lot of the dialogue is repetitive and somewhat annoying. These voices include George Carlin as Hugo, Glenn Close as Kala, Brad Garret as Uto, Lance Henrickson as Kerchak and Ron Pearlman as Kugo. Besides the cartoon being straight forward, conventional and unfunny was Phil Collins annoying songs throughout- they were so boring that I used a remote control to whiz through them. It's sole message is okay, but even at a running time of 1 hour and 12 minutes still felt quite long, perhaps it should've been 35 or 45 minute and at the same time cut out the uninspiring singing, the cheap jokes and I might've like this one a little more.
  • I didn't see this film until fairly recently, and since I loved the original film and the fact I am a huge animation fan I thought why not check it out? And I liked it very much, it is not as good as the original, which I think is wonderful, but it is better than Tarzan and Jane, which was mediocre.

Now I don't hate all the sequels, in fact some of them I have liked, King of Thieves, Enchanted Christmas, Simba's Pride, Bambi 2 and Brother Bear 2, though none of them are as good as their originals, and then there are some like Cinderella 2, Little Mermaid 2 and Jungle Book 2 that almost completely lack the heart and charm of their predecessors.

This sequel(or midquel perhaps) as I have said is not as good as the first Tarzan, but it does have the original's heart and charm, that is one main reason why it is one of the better Disney sequels. I do agree that the story is lacking a bit and drags in spots and the film is too short. However, there is some nice humour, and some parts are even touching. Even better though is the animation, this is easily one of the better-looking sequels. The animation in the original undoubtedly was absolutely fantastic, but here the landscapes, colours and characters are just as gorgeously rendered. And I liked the soundtrack as well, not as catchy but it is still nice and upbeat and gives the film its heart and soul.

Tarzan himself is very likable, strong and charismatic even as a young boy, yet loyal to his family and friends, and I liked Terk as well, she was funny without being completely over-the-top. The voice acting is strong, Harrison Chad does a great job, as do Glenn Close, Estelle Harris and Lance Henrikson, while Brenda Grate was surprisingly good as Terk.

Overall, not as good as the first Tarzan, but it is for me one of the better sequels, as it is very well animated and has charm and heart. 7/10 Bethany Cox

I really, really like the first Disney's animated Tarzan movie. The story was good and the dialog was inventive and funny. Maybe I'm just tired of animated movies, but watching this Tarzan II was a let down.

The story is very simple. Boy Tarzan is frustrated because he can't run fast enough and isn't strong enough, and gets separated from his family when a tree across a deep ravine crashed down while his family is crossing in a storm. He evades one trouble and ends up in the presence of the old ape (George Carlin) who tells Tarzan that he isn't an ape. So Tarzan sets out to figure out what he really is.

So, with the help of his friends he finally is reunited with, and his mother, he figures out what he is -- a "Tarzan", someone who can figure out things that the apes can't. So, in a sense, this is the very beginning of what he was to become, Tarzan of the jungle.
  • This was much better than I had originally anticipated. That's just the cold hard truth. This is the story of Tarzan as a young boy, with all of his young friends, having fun. This is a great movie for children, mostly those between the ages of about 5 and 12, who will enjoy it the most. And parents will like the story line too, it is a good thing to talk to your children about. What to do in the situation, and what NOT to do. It seems as though Disney is trying to put these movies out as fast as they can now, but I don't think this one was for the money. They did take time on this video to make sure it was WORTH buying, and believe me, it is. And if you want this title, you can find good, inexpensive ones at either HTTP://www.amazon.com ,or HTTP://www.ebay.com. Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it!! This was a good movie, and I gave it an 8 of 10.
  • Disney's "Tarzan II" is a fun family film to watch, and I must say that it is much, much better than "Tarzan and Jane." This sequel centers around Tarzan's childhood, and what he had to go through while seeking his real identity. All the lovely characters are back of course, with other new fun characters. The animation of this film was quite satisfying and the songs by Phil Collins were also lovely. I have to say, however, that this film is mostly for kids but it has some good laughs for adults though . Also, do not expect this sequel to be better than the original "Tarzan" but still, it is a good one compared to other sequels, and is worth watching.

Tarzan 2 is a 2005 prequel to the 1999 film of the same name and has two of its original stars Glen Close and Lance Heirksen. The story is about Tarzan who can't seem to fit in the ape family as his human. So Tarzan runs away and befriends apes.

The animation is nice and it was cool to hear Phil Collins again.
  • Seriously, sometimes it seems that it was made by different developers. The animation style changed, and while im not a fan of it, it still looks great, and thats the only good thing about the movie. The story and new characters are just bland like any other Disney sequel, nobody cant argue about that. Well, more than a sequel is like a "half prequel" like Bambi 2, but at least Bambi 2 explains some things that the original didnt explain, while Tarzan 2 dont add anything to the plot, but padded it and the new characters dont appear in Tarzan 1, so, whats the point?

Horrible movie like almost any other Disney sequel to get money at any cost that should never exist.

    Warning: Spoilers
Well, I watched this movie 2 times in English and 1 time in Greek (my country) and I have to say I enjoyed all 3 times. I will start with it's flaws, from OK to its worst and then to its ups, from good to the best The villains are a bit bland while funny, but I can live with them. Zugor is not given enough back story, and the 3 ape kids are annoying. But by far the biggest flaw in the film is its ending, which was put in a position where it could not be anything drastic but not this. It just goes from nice action to happy family in 10 seconds. Now for its strengths, which are a lot. The voice acting is superb, terk, tarzan and kala are among the best stars (kerchak would be too but he is barely in the film.) The art style is nice too, and the deeper look into tarzan's childhood and him chilling and playing with tantor and terk is always fun to watch. The animation is superb, at the end we get the best musical number (in my opinion) from all 3 tarzan movies ( I cant believe i am calling tarzan and jane a tarzan film but I digress) with a really awesome scene of tarzan swinging and surfing; that can surpass the original tarzan. But in my opinion, its biggest strength is ... its songs. Finding my way is really nice and sad, son of man was the best from tarzan 1 and it gets a nice reprise, who am is amazing, but who am I reprise is just out of this world. It is not only accompanied by a great background animation, but its also a joy to hear 7 stars from me, I really enjoyed this 1.
  • Tarzan II is another example of an unneeded Disney sequel (or midquel in this case). It may be a slight improvement from Tarzan & Jane with some good animation and a nice score coming from Phil Collins that's traditional to its predecessor, but the execution ended up making this an easily forgettable adventure with a basic plot, weak comedy, characters that are downgraded into a bland cast, and a pointless trio of villains that often throw out filler than having legitimately evil moments. In terms of my recommendation, I'll say that if you really want to know more about Tarzan in his childhood, maybe this would be it. Outside of that, I honestly think it's best to just stick with the original film. I can tolerate this over Tarzan & Jane, but this one is not the kind of jungle I'll be returning anytime soon.

A massive improvement on 2002's 'Tarzan & Jane' - this is a proper follow-up. Amazing what can happen when you try, eh Disney?

'Tarzan II' still doesn't compare to the original film from 1999, but this third (not second, as the title would suggest) film from the series is actually good. There's thankfully one consistent story, albeit a prequel one, and there are even returns for Glenn Close (Kala) and Lance Henriksen (Kerchak) onscreen and Phil Collins behind it with the music.

The premise is fairly simple, yet it still makes for enjoyable enough viewing. It has heart and meaning, as well as decent humour. It could be greater but I can still very much appreciate what it brings to the table.

A fitting revisit to the world of 'Tarzan', unlike its predecessor.

This animation is a great prequel. Isn't wonderful but is good
  • This straight-to-video Disney sequel, taking place when Tarzan is still a boy, is so perfectly executed, it feels as though it could've been additional material cut from the first movie.

Tarzan, finding that he can't keep up with the other gorilla youngsters, begins to question who and what he is, and the film is more or less about his self-discovery and how he begins the transformation from just being a human boy to becoming the 'Tarzan' we all know and love.

All of your favorite characters are back (except Jane and the professor of course), as well as the voice talents of Glenn Close as Kala and Lance Henrikson as Kerchak. The casting director did a wonderful job in finding a young voice talent to perfectly match the young Tarzan from the original. Furthermore, it appears that most of the original animators are back as well, for the animation is something to behold, and a few new songs as well as a reprise from the first film by Phil Collins make it that much more convincing.

This film has the passion and heart that is usually lacking in the great majority of Disney sequels—you can really feel the care and respect for the material by all involved in the production. It's both touching and humorous, and not just for children—adults will find this amusing as well. Now if Disney will just follow suit and continue to make sequels such as this one, maybe they can actually put more than one every ten years in the theater.

VERDICT: Disney succeeds in finally making a worthwhile sequel, much of the caliber of the original. Recommended to all—if you liked the original Tarzan, you'll like this one. And to all you collectors out there, this one is definitely worth the $20—I know I'll be adding it to *my* collection sometime in the near future.

    7.5 out of 10.0

  • A significant improvement over 2002's 'Tarzan & Jane' - this is a proper sequel. Impressive what can be achieved with effort, right Disney?

'Tarzan II' may not reach the heights of the original 1999 film, but this third installment (despite the misleading title) in the series is actually quite good. There is a consistent storyline, albeit a prequel, and the return of Glenn Close (Kala) and Lance Henriksen (Kerchak) onscreen, with Phil Collins providing the music.

The plot is simple yet enjoyable, with heart, meaning, and decent humor. It could be better, but I still appreciate its contribution.

A worthy return to the 'Tarzan' universe, unlike its predecessor.

I thought that 2005's "Tarzan II" was a fun little prequel to the original "Tarzan" from 1999 . . . at least it was better than 2002's "Tarzan & Jane", but to be honest this film was better than I thought it would have been with a holding storyline, and fun character. Of course we get a maybe 10 or 11 year old Tarzan who is currently just having the time of his life, but after nearly dying and coming back up to hear his mother (gorilla) saying that she would have died to keep him safe, and the other mother gorillas saying that it's for the better that he's gone, and Tarzan decides to run away (also, Tarzan is afraid of a creature called the "Zugor"). During Tarzan's wandering he meets a small family of three gorillas (a mother and her two sons), one is muscle head . . . the other just seems to be . . . not that smart, but anyhow their mother lets Tarzan go, and Tarzan hears "ZUUUUUUGOOOOOOORRRR" come from out of the jungle, everyone scatters with Tarzan running into the jungle, and into an older gorilla yelling at him that the zugor is near. The guy runs into his little tree and refuses to let Tarzan in. While Tarzan is wandering around the jungle once more, he notices that the same monkey is up in a tree and is holding a horn or something. In the horn he yells "ZUUUUUUGOOORRR" to scare away the animals at the watering hole. The two befriend each other, and throughout the movie their friendship grows, Tarzan eventually meets back up with his pack of gorillas, and well, they'll be in eachother's hearts. Cue Phil Collins.

Tarzan 2 is the story that goes on during the actual story or the original, kind of like Lion King 1/2 it is one of those stories that explains a lot and answers a lot of questions. This story is about Tarzan's childhood and the adventures he goes on, it is mostly about him finding out who he really is and excepting that he is unique and has his own special skills.

Along the way he makes new friends who teach him about things, and in turn he teaches them about new things. I also liked the fact that it just focuses on Tarzan and not Jane, don't get me wrong I love Jane she is great and I love the romance of Tarzan and Jane, this story is great because we get to see more of Tarzan's childhood that was sort of a mystery in the original. And we get to see him acquire some of his amazing skills like tree surfing and his first Tarzan yell.

Tarzan 2 is a fun film with new characters and a new story. And it does answer questions viewers might have about his childhood. Reason I give it a 9 is I feel it could have explained a lot more then it did, and a good amount was explained, it's just I wish they would have explained more.

    9/10 for Tarzan 2
  • I didn't know what to expect considering Disney's negative reputation with their direct-to-video sequels. So when I watched it I have to say it was pretty good. It was well animated, acted and paced. The story's about a young Tarzan (Harrison Chad) trying to find his place in the jungle. After trying to keep up with his pack during a storm he gets separated and decides to run away feeling he doesn't belong with him. This leads him to a grumpy gorilla named Zugor (George Carlin) who pretends to be a monster in order to scare off the other animals near his home including a grumpy gorilla named Mama Gunda (Estelle Harris) and her two sons the irritable, aggressive Kago (Ron Perlman) and the happy yet dimwitted Uto (Brad Garrett) who think they are trapped by the "monster".

In exchange for keeping his secret Zugor reluctantly agrees to help him find out who he is. The movie's not as good as the first one but it's still good in its own right. The animation's a slight downgrade as the characters aren't as fluid as the original but it's still pretty good by direct-to-video standards. The characters are well-defined and enjoyable to watch. What Tarzan goes through is relatable as there's been a point in our life where we were trying to find out our place in this world. Mama Gunda and her sons antics are fun to watch as well. They really have good chemistry which leads to some good laughs. The songs aren't as memorable as the first but they're still written and performed by Phil Collins so they're ok. The pacing's pretty good. While there're moments of bouncing around there're also quiet thoughtful moments and I think they're done pretty well.

Tarzen 2's definitely a diamond in the rough. It has something for both kids and adults. It may not be memorable but it's still enjoyable nonetheless. If you have kids I'd say check it out.

even not surpassing the first, this second film is very satisfying in my opinion, I always liked the Tarzan as a kid, and when I saw Tarzan 2, I found that the story is when it's a child, it's very cool to see the classics characters reappear children, I loved this movie, it is advisable for young people is a very underrated, but it's a great sequence, as many sequences of Disney films which has a cool animation and that much fun to young people.Tarzan 2 is stored by me in my heart, when I think about my childhood is hard not to think of this movie, don't underestimate this movie, if you like something fun and funny, this film is for you, if you like something more mature and serious, look for another movie or watch the first
