Far Far Away Idol auditions to be the next hilarious extra but is rapidly rejected.
The conclusion to the animation masterpiece that is 'Shrek 2' (you can quote me on that!) is a sing-a-long to Ricky Martin's "Livin La Vida Loca". Little Donkey and Puss Puss look drunk as they finalise their karaoke sesh and all of sudden a horrifically animated Simon Cowell walks in. Simon frickin' Cowell. How much did he get paid for this? Shrek and Fiona become star struck and act as judges for this Far Far Away Idol competition. And yes, it's better than 'Pop Idol'. Pinocchio is singing Styx's "Mr Roboto" because he's wooden...like a robot. Prince Charming busts out "Too Sexy for my Shirt" because he believes himself to be the dog's bollocks. Wolfy? Duran Duran's "Hungry like the Wolf". Captain Hook? "Hooked on a Feeling". Three Blind Mice? "I Can See Clearly Now The Rain Has Gone".
How long have you got? Because sweet swampy Ogre stench this short has a tonne of pun-driven songs for each character. That's where the playful humour resides. Everything else pretty much falls flat into a disposable DVD extra. Shrek is far too nice and should be meaner that Cowell in his hoisted jeans (seriously, what even is that style?). Shrek and Fiona perform a duet and it's clearly not their voice actors singing. The winner is someone who doesn't even perform on the show. Democracy is tossed out of the kingdom as I couldn't vote for my favourite performance. What the hell!? Oh, and why didn't the Fairy Godmother come back from bubblelicious land to belt out "Holding Out For A Hero" again? She would've utterly decimated the competition! Eh. It is what it is. A stupid disposable extra that will keep you amused for a total of two minutes. The downside is that it's over six minutes long.
