Joseph Quinn is currently smashing it in Hollywood. After making a name for himself primarily on television, his upcoming movie roles include this year’s A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator 2.
As of Valentine’s Day this year, when the film’s whole cast was announced, he’s also been confirmed as playing Johnny Storm, Aka the Human Torch, in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four, which is due for release in July 2025.
It’s an interesting casting, but there’s no doubt the English actor can pull it off. Here are five of Joseph Quinn’s past roles that prove he’ll make a superb Johnny Storm for the MCU’s Fantastic Four.
Dickensian Joseph Quinn as Arthur Havisham in Dickensian.
Dickensian is a 20-part British drama series aired on the BBC in 2015 and 2016. The series unites characters from several Charles Dickens novels in a Victorian London neighborhood.

Exclusive: Veteran British director Susanna White has revealed she’s working on a feature film based on her teenage life set against changes in the fashion world, as she gears up for today’s launch of Apple TV+ period drama The Buccaneers.
White is developing an untitled script for the BFI, the first time she has written a feature script herself, and the plot is based on her personal coming of age story. “It’s the story of me at 13, set in the world of fashion in early 1970s,” she told Deadline in an interview. “It’s very fun, sexy and hopefully moving.”
We hear the film will follow 13-year-old Gingernut as she grows up with the fur trade’s decline playing out in the background. The plot will see her trying to make sense of her parents’ dysfunctional relationship and include themes of family, growing up, betrayal, love and loss.

When it comes to Dickens adaptations, it helps to temper your expectations. The revered Victorian writer is perhaps the most frequently adapted novelist in history – but to what end? The results are wildly inconsistent: for every The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019) or Bleak House (2005), there are a dozen insipid Christmas Carols, or a handful of regrettable Oliver Twists. The BBC are once more throwing their (old-fashioned bowler) hat into the ring with a new six-episode screen version of Great Expectations. But how many more hats can this particular ring withstand?
Starring Dunkirk’s Fionn Whitehead as Pip, Shalom Brune-Franklin (Line of Duty) as Estella, and Oliva Colman as Miss Havisham, the new BBC series is a retelling of Dickens’s rags-to-riches bildungsroman – roughed up a bit with some distinctly modern sex and violence. Peaky Blinders scribe Steven Knight wrote the adaptation, the latest in a long line of Great Expectations adaptations for the screen.

The original run of "The X-Files" lasted from 1993 to 2002, lasting a whopping nine seasons. Few shows were better exemplars of their time than "The X-Files." Initially released in a post-Cold War world, the series explored the shadowy world of government cover-ups and secret alien conspiracies at a time when the public had come to mistrust the government. The United States was not at war, and the citizens began to look for enemies within. In comparison to the political tumult than has come since the 1990s, the alien abductions, clone experiments, and killer liver fluke men of "The X-Files" is now a quaint, almost cute analysis of government malfeasance. Mulder and Scully would be lost in a world of QAnon and the like.
Apart from the paranoid fun, the central appeal of "The X-Files" were its two lead characters. David Duchovny played Special Agent Fox Mulder, a man skeptical of social norms and traditional religion,...

But, while sent to secure husbands and titles, the buccaneers’ hearts are set on much more than that, and saying “I do” is just the beginning. The series stars Kristine Froseth (The Assistant) as Nan St. George, Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why) as Conchita Closson, Josie Totah (Saved by the Bell) as Mabel Elmsworth, Aubri Ibrag (Dive Club) as Lizzy Elmsworth, Imogen Waterhouse (The Outpost) as Jinny St. George, and Mia Threapleton (I Am Ruth) as Honoria Marable.

Emmy winner Gillian Anderson scored her sixth career Golden Globe nomination this year for her acclaimed performance as British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Crown.” It’s been 14 years since Anderson was last nominated at the Globes (for “Bleak House” in 2007). The Golden Globes are keen on “The Crown.” The first three seasons of the Netflix drama series, which chronicles the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, scored nine Globe nominations and won three. Its critically-acclaimed fourth season looks poised to outpace itself, though, with our combined odds predicting a whopping seven bids when nominations are announced on February 3. Two of those nominations will come in TV Supporting Actress race.
Gillian Anderson currently leads our combined odds, with the majority of our experts and editors predicting her victory. Anderson’s uncanny performance as Margaret Thatcher stunned critics, with Melanie McFarland (Salon) calling her turn “nothing short of masterful” and Hank Stuever (Washington Post) applauding her as “devastatingly precise.” A Globes bid for “The Crown” would follow her four consecutive nominations for “The X Files,” for which she won in 1997, and one for the miniseries “Bleak House.”

Exclusive: Gillian Anderson, who can be seen on Netflix’s The Crown as Margaret Thatcher, has signed with UTA.
The Hollywood talent agency has signed the actress, who broke through in Fox’s The X-Files, in all areas. Deadline understands that Anderson had been without a U.S. agent but over the course of her career has been represented by WME and CAA.
It is a hot signing for UTA with Anderson scoring plaudits for her role in the British royal drama. She stars as the former Prime Minister alongside Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham-Carter in the fourth season of the show, which was created by Peter Morgan.
Anderson told Deadline earlier this year that she never hesitated at the prospect of playing a Pm who many consider tyrannical. “No hesitation at all,” she said. “There are a few things in life where, if they come your way, you just...

It’s been 23 years since Gillian Anderson last stepped up to the winner’s podium at the Golden Globes for “The X-Files,” but now Gold Derby’s predictions favor her to receive a bookend trophy for “The Crown.” She prevailed at the 1997 ceremony for her role as FBI Agent Dana Scully for the latter half of Season 3 and the first part of Season 4. In her acceptance speech, Anderson famously made note of the “profound impact” Scully had on women all over the world. Watch the Golden Globes flashback video above.

One of two things happen when Mira Nair tries making an Indian film in India. She crafts a story that is beautifully authentic and inspired by India that is (think Salaam Bombay! or Monsoon Wedding). Or, she tries recreating an India that was, in which case the outcome is beautifully plastic (think Kama Sutra).
Mira Nair's new web series talks of an India that was. The show diligently tries to belong to the former lot, but tends to gravitate to the second category.
Maybe it was the challenge of adapting Vikram Seth's book of the same name. A massive work of fiction comprising nearly six lakh words would seem difficult to capture in six episodes.
Or maybe, just as it was blatant in the case of Kama Sutra, Nair was out making an Indian film in India for the West.

Diana Rigg, British icon of the 1960s, has died at the age of 82. Rigg is best remembered for her turn as no-nonsense secret agent Emma Peel in the 1965 series “The Avengers,” as well as a memorable role as Olenna Tyrell on “Game of Thrones.” The actress was diagnosed with cancer in March and her agent released a statement to the BBC saying she was surrounded by friends and family when she passed.
Rigg came to define the era known as the “Swingin’ Sixties” in London, both in terms of fashion and for the characters she played. Her role as Emma Peel came to be one of the first depictions of feminism for many, though Rigg often courted controversy later in life for her comments decrying the feminist movement and refusing to participate in it. Regardless, her turn as Emma Peel, as well as her later performance as James Bond’s only wife,...

Full-time TV goddess and part-time television detective Gillian Anderson is never far from our minds. Here are nine of our favorite TV roles from the actress, whose on-screen legacy reaches far past The X-Files franchise to British period dramas, eccentric Bryan Fuller shows, and animated snarkiness.

While the favorites for the Drama Guest Actor Emmy contain a bevy of former Emmy winners, one of the leading contenders has yet to win his first golden trophy.
For decades, renowned British actor Charles Dance has been a familiar face on American television screens, particularly for his dastardly turn on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” Having achieved fame onstage with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Dance achieved worldwide acclaim as Sgt. Netflix’s “Sex Education” was overlooked by the Emmys in 2019 for its first season, but the British dramedy about teenagers dealing with families, relationships and their overwhelming adolescent hormones was entered for consideration as a drama. In 2020 the show is back in contention, but this time in comedy categories, which could pay off for the whole show, but especially for Gillian Anderson.
Anderson is a contender for Best Comedy Supporting Actress for her performance as Jean Milburn, a sex therapist whose line of work and matter-of-fact sharing of her expertise often makes her relationship with her teenage son (Asa Butterfield) especially awkward. Among the show’s large ensemble cast, she’s the most familiar to Emmy voters. Now here’s a mystery worth solving: Why doesn’t Hollywood give us more ridiculously complicated, gratuitously eccentric whodunits? You know, the kind of all-star affairs where a colorful assortment of highly suspicious characters gather in a remote manor, or at an old castle, or on the Orient Express, in order to be confronted by a corpse and the prospect that a murderer lurks among them. It’s not that audiences have lost their appetite for such tales. Au contraire, ’twas television that killed the old-fashioned detective story. Over the years, “Murder She Wrote” and “Masterpiece Mystery!” have rendered such movies redundant — on the big screen at least — by solving procedurals on the small screen each week.
With “Knives Out,” writer-director Rian Johnson shows that there’s life left in the genre, paying . Taking a break between “Star Wars” sequels to knock off something a little less far, far away...

“We tell ourselves stories in order to live,” a wise woman once said. And sometimes, we tell others stories to scare the living shit out of them. Like that one about the kid who keeps beating on a scarecrow in a cornfield — until one night, the scarecrow decides to beat back. Or the urban legend about the girl who found a pimple, only it wasn’t exactly a pimple (think spiders and eggs). Or the yarn about the Jangling Man, who … well, maybe you shouldn’t ask about him. Some stories are best left untold.

British phenomenon Bodyguard has exploded on to the Golden Globes nominations with two nods including a somewhat surprising inclusion in the Drama category.
The Jed Mercurio-penned series led a good morning for Brits with Killing Eve and A Very English Scandal also scoring highly with HFPA members.
Bodyguard, which is produced by ITV-owned World Productions, is thought to be the first truly original BBC drama to be nominated in the Best Television Series – Drama category at the Golden Globes. The six-part show airs on Netflix in the UK and while the Svod service is understood to have been a partner since the show’s early production stages, it was picked up by Netflix’s co-licensing team.
The terror thriller was the biggest new drama hit for the British public broadcaster in over ten years with 11 million people tuning into live to its finale back in September. However, its inclusion in the U.
