There are problems reviewing this movie. It was a mixed bag, in that some of the sci-fi and character segments were enjoyable enough and very well done, sometimes the acting was fine, and sometimes not, and there were numerous flaws, as observed in the other reviews. I was particularly let down by the end sequence where our survivor miraculously locates his two loved ones in Washington DC, in about 30 seconds, even though the city has been destroyed, and almost everybody is dead. ...And all three got away with the same type of band-aid cuts.
The basic problem with this movie is that it's generally a sleazy idea to produce a remake of some other movie(s)unless you are prepared to offer a substantially better, or at least originally distinctive version of that movie. If this film were the only one to come from the book, I believe that it would have received more recommendations than criticisms. So, what could have been a fairly good sci-fi is instead, a fairly bad one.
