  • Randy Spears' acting expertise is on display in "At Your Service", a forgettable (and forgotten) Adam & Eve video from a decade back. These features are quite enjoyable to watch, especially now that interesting new releases are few and far between.

One difference about this Nicholas Steele effort is the relative obscurity of its female cast. Steele, like most directors, usually peppers his films with an assortment of superstars in order to attract the potential viewer's interest. Even retroactively, the sight of new faces is a treat, when they perform well.

Premise of vet writer/character actor George Kaplan's screenplay is that Spears is a sort of house mother to a group of five young actresses/upwardly mobile women living together. He's constantly fussing, dusting the place, preparing meals, getting girls up on time to get to their auditions, etc. It's an unusually light role for the ordinarily dramatic, brooding (or smug) Randy, and he makes it entertaining, in a porno version of Cary Grant's charm and willingness to appear buffoonish.

So Steele, prior to his series of big-budget and often overblown projects, keeps things simple and frothy in a situation comedy vein. The cast's timing and sexual prowess carries the piece, and most significantly it is never insulting to the viewer - perhaps the single most important factor in the Couples segment of porn.

It is telling that the wonderful starlet Lauren Phoenix actually plays the "older" of the femmes and is fine as always. Among the newcomers I would single out tall beauty Terri Summers for further on-screen inspection.
