Exclusive: Ilfenesh Hadera (Godfather of Harlem) has been tapped to star opposite Denzel Washington in Apple and A24’s High and Low, an English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller, from filmmaker Spike Lee.
She comes to the project following collaborations with Lee on his acclaimed Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It, based on his classic 1986 film, as well as his movies Chi-Raq and Oldboy.
Loosely based on the 1959 novel King’s Ransom, written by Evan Hunter under the pen name Ed McBain, the original High and Low watches as a shoe company executive becomes a victim of extortion when his chauffeur’s son is kidnapped by mistake and held for ransom. It’s unclear how closely Lee’s film will hew to the original storyline, and there’s no word yet as to the role Hadera will play.

Tony Ganios, the actor who made his film debut in Philip Kaufman’s 1979 coming-of-age comedy-drama The Wanderers and played audience favorite Anthony ‘Meat’ Tuperello in the 1980s Porky’s sex comedy franchise, died Sunday following surgery at a hospital in New York. He was 64.
His death was announced on social media by his fiancée, Amanda Serrano-Ganios, who said that the actor fell ill last week, was hospitalized Saturday with a spinal cord infection, and passed away Sunday of heart failure.
Cast as one of the Bronx Italian-American street toughs in the 1963-set The Wanderers, based on the novel by Richard Price, Ganios became, for much of the ’80s, a go-to actor for directors looking for a touch of East Coast flavor. Ganios re-teamed with his Wanderers co-star Ken Wahl for a recurring role as a mob lawyer on Wahl’s 1987-90 crime series Wiseguy.

The Equalizer has drawn very good ratings for CBS. Still, it's also co-produced by an outside studio (Universal Television), which is a negative in the economics of network television these days. A couple of years ago, the Magnum Pi reboot was cancelled by CBS when the companies couldn't come to a financial agreement that worked for both sides. Will The Equalizer be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Equalizer Season 4 premiere “Truth for a Truth.”] The Equalizer left off at the end of last season with Robyn (Queen Latifah) stuck watching as her team—Mel (Liza Lapira), Harry (Adam Goldberg), and Dante (Tory Kittles)—were tied up and trapped in a room engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the Season 4 premiere doesn’t waste time revealing who survives. Robyn had been shocked to discover that Michelle (Ilfenesh Hadera), someone from her past she thought was dead, was alive and out for revenge. But as soon as Robyn was left alone with one of Michelle’s men, she easily knocked him out, found the room where her friends were kept, used a grenade to blow open the door, and got all of them out safely. We may not be able to say the same for Fisk (Donal Logue) and the others from the CIA transporting Michelle at the end of the episode after ...

Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson in Michael. Photo Credit: Kevin Mazur
Worldwide audiences received their first look today at Jaafar Jackson in performance as Michael Jackson, bringing to life the “Man in the Mirror” from the legendary 1992-1993 Dangerous Tour.
The iconic photo, captured by renowned photographer Kevin Mazur, was released by Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International, the studios behind the much-anticipated April 18, 2025 film “Michael.”
The choice to have Mazur capture the first-look photograph of Jaafar Jackson is as intentional as so many of the artistic choices the producers have made. As one of the photographers who documented Michael over many years, Mazur captured rehearsals as he prepared to entertain the world with his “This Is It” concerts. He is now also the first to photograph Jaafar Jackson in character as Michael.

Tracker is off to a strong start at CBS as the show’s premiere episode followed Super Bowl Lviii‘s telecast. Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory against the San Francisco 49ers, the show starring This Is Us vet Justin Hartley debuted with 18.4 million viewers. According to the network, Tracker‘s debut was the most-watched primetime entertainment program since the 2021 debut of The Equalizer which also aired following the Super Bowl. Estimates based on Live+3 day playback stats suggest that with the upcoming encore of the premiere, Tracker‘s pilot episode could amass as much as 25 million viewers overall by the end of the week. (Credit: Lindsay Siu/CBS ) As mentioned above, Tracker‘s series debut episode will air Thursday, February 15 at 10/9c, giving viewers and new fans a chance to catch the show at a more reasonable time considering the original episode aired following a Super Bowl that went into overtime.

Justin Hartley certainly has a proven track record when it comes to post-Super Bowl dramas.
In an often-uneven linear landscape, the This Is Us alum’s new CBS series Tracker scored a very solid 18.4 million viewers in its debut after the network’s Super Bowl coverage Sunday. That’s the best premiere of any series on any network since … well, the last time the still Shari Redstone-owned network had the Super Bowl in 2021 and Queen Latifah’s The Equalizer hit the small screen.
The hip hop legend’s still-running crime procedural had a viewership of 20.4 million on February 7, 2021.
As for the crime-solving Hartley show based on Jeffrey Deaver’s 2019 book The Never Game, there could be more eyeballs coming once viewers on Paramount+, CBS.com and the CBS app are factored in over the coming days. As it is, CBS is predicting the Tracker debut will top out at around 25 million viewers.

The series premiere of “Tracker” reached an average 18.4 million viewers on CBS on Sunday.
Titled “Klamath Falls,” the episode hit this height thanks to massive lead-in from Super Bowl Lviii, which aired directly beforehand and became the most-watched telecast of all time, hitting an average viewership of 123.4 million people. “Tracker” retained at least 15% of the game’s audience.
It should be noted that the Super Bowl stat accounts for viewership across CBS, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports and NFL digital properties, while the “Tracker” figure refers only to CBS viewership and will soon increase when data becomes available regarding viewership on Paramount+, CBS.com and the CBS app.
“Tracker” wasn’t the only show to benefit from the Super Bowl’s success: “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” aired next and reached 3.7 million viewers, its best viewership since 2021, while “After Midnight” followed and hit a series high of 2 million viewers.

CBS’s Tracker premiered after the Super Bowl, a time slot that usually benefits from having the Big Game as a lead-in. Unfortunately, this year’s Super Bowl went into overtime, which meant episode one was delayed on the East Coast until 11pm. After the ratings were revealed, it turned out the late start did not affect viewership, with the series premiere bringing in 18.4 million viewers. That makes Tracker the most-watched primetime entertainment program after the Super Bowl since 2021’s debut of The Equalizer.
Episode two, “Missoula,” settles into the series’ regular time slot, airing on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 9pm Et/Pt. Justin Hartley leads the cast as Colter Shaw, Fiona Rene plays Reenie Green, and Robin Weigert is Teddi. Abby McEnany stars as Velma and Eric Graise is Bobby Exley.

Believe it or not but the Super Bowl wasn’t always the major media event that it is today.
Before network executives fully understood Americans’ passion for football, the NFL’s championship game received no special treatment. In fact, NBC and CBS didn’t even bother to save their broadcasts of Super Bowl I, recording over the tapes with soap operas. One of the most consequential sporting events in North American history could have become lost media if it weren’t for a handful of fans who made their own bootleg copies.
By now, however, everyone is keenly aware that the most widely-viewed American TV broadcast every year will inevitably be the Super Bowl. Last year’s matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles was the most-watched telecast ever with an average of 115.1 million viewers tuning in across all platforms. Is Reacher too violent for you? Consider Tracker, which is also based on a series of page-turning thrillers (by Jeffery Deaver), also about a drifting loner with a dark past who risks his neck wherever he goes, with the scars to prove it. A few differences: Colter Shaw (the appealing Justin Hartley of This Is Us) leads with his heart, not his fists, though he more than holds his own whenever set upon by thugs. He’s also in it for the money, a self-described “rewardist” whose catchphrase is “I collect only in success.” And succeed this skilled tracker invariably does, though not always guaranteeing a happy ending. Tracker is pretty much guaranteed a happy beginning, with CBS gifting the series the coveted post-Super Bowl time slot, providing many more eyeballs than the typical network premiere. While maybe not the sort of “event TV” that’...

The thriller, which starts production in March, is the English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller of the same name. The 1963 film starring Toshiro Mifune was based on the Ed McBain novel “King’s Ransom,” which chronicles the ruin of a businessman following a ransom payment to kidnappers.
Developed and produced by A24, Escape Artists and Mandalay Pictures, “High and Low” features a script written by Alan Fox and Spike Lee.
As Apple is a co-financier on “High and Low,” this project will not be included in a recent multi-year deal that A24 brokered with competing streaming service Max last year, sources familiar with the movie said. The...
