  • I would have liked this movie as much as Huan Zhu Ge Ge. But there were some things Qiong Yao added to this film to make me give only a 8. Fist of all, there was too much drama between Yiping's relationship with Shu Huan. It's like they break up every week and then they love each other more than ever. There was also too much drama between Yiping and her father and also everybody on the other side of her family. And then there was too much kissing scenes. Like between Yiping and Shu Huan. They locked lips with each other every time they meet. First I didn't mind, but when they started doing that more and more, it was gross. Also, I didn't like Ruby Lin's character of Ruping. She was wanting something that she'll never get. I also feel kinda bad for her because I could tell she loved Shu Huan really much. And after all, it was her who met him first. And Ruping helped Yiping a lot. Yiping hates almost everyone. She was too bitter sometimes.
  • This is a very entertaining serial and viewers cannot help but watch it till the end. The story is about a Chinese family and their children in China in the 1920s and 1930s. But I am very doubtful if it is true or realistic. The story was screen-played by Qiong Yao, a prolific writer. I must point out she was born in 1938 so she couldn't have lived through or eye-witnessed events similar to those in the story. This story is strange in that a lot of things are based on old Chinese values and traditions but at the same time present-day ideas are found in sex love and marriage. The same is true of costumes. We see girls wearing the traditional qipao and also baggy pants which were definitely not prevalent in those days.

In conclusion, if the viewer watches this for entertainment, fine. But if he or she thinks watching it helps understand and appreciate Chinese culture in the 1920s and 1930s, think more than once

This TV series is an amazingly romantic story, which is saying quite a lot because I am a hopeless romantic. It is about the separation of this man and woman who love each other, like really really love each other-the death do us part kind. And they obviously can't be together, or else that wouldn't be romantic...etc...So they do the Romeo and Juliet thing all over again. It was definitely a while ago that I watched this, so I couldn't give you any spoilers if I wanted to, so just go watch it. I just remember it was really romantic and beautiful and lovely. I can't speak Mandarin, but the version I watched was in Cantonese and I understood most all of it. I also have to mention that I love the music from it too...but that's just because I'm a hopeless romantic. I don't know where you would get this off DVD now, but if you get a chance, this will make the clouds in your rainy day go away(like what the title says in Chinese)!
