Two of the biggest rules in rock music: Never play “Stairway to Heaven” at a guitar shop, and don’t try to cover Radiohead. Apparently, Pierce the Veil didn’t get the memo for the latter, and went ahead and recorded a cover of “Karma Police.”
Thankfully, Pierce the Veil didn’t turn Radiohead’s Ok Computer masterpiece into a pop-punk ditty or a metalcore anthem. Instead, they remain fairly faithful to the 1997 original, keeping it at the same tempo but infusing their version with heavy guitars and distortion. All the while, frontman Vic Fuentes delivers an impassioned vocal performance that adds a little emo vibe to the song.

A reunited Heart performed their first show in over four years on Wednesday night (December 27th) at the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland, California.
The legendary rock group fronted by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson had previously announced a New Year’s Eve reunion concert in their hometown of Seattle, Washington. It appears Heart scheduled a few warm-up gigs, as the Highland show will be followed by a performance on Thursday (December 28th) at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California.
Wednesday’s concert was Heart’s first since October 2019 and saw the band running through a career-spanning set including hits such as “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You,” and “Barracuda.” The Wilson sisters would close out the evening with a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” reprising their famous performance of the song at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012 — a rendition that brought Robert Plant, who was in attendance,...

There’s a reason the word honors is in the title. To help celebrate the lifetime contributions of artists in music, dance, theater, opera, movies and TV, the Kennedy Center Honors routinely pay tribute to its recipients by rewarding them with memorable performances.
Scores of artists have been feted since the Honors got their start in 1978, but there are certain tributes that remain sketched in our hearts forever. In anticipation of the 46th annual event honoring Billy Crystal, Renée Fleming, Barry Gibb, Queen Latifah, and Dionne Warwick on Dec. 27, we look back at some of the show’s most unforgettable performances — starting with Lenny Bernstein’s opening speech from the very first Kennedy Center Honors, of course.

Dolly Parton isn’t done rocking yet. After sharing her new album Rockstar last week, our November cover star has returned with two new bonus tracks: Her rendition of the Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise,” plus a new version of her classic “Jolene” featuring Måneskin.
The Måneskin-assisted version of “Jolene” is available exclusively with the digital download version of Rockstar on Parton’s website, though the country icon did share a preview of the duet on Instagram. It sounds like the new recording stays fairly faithful to the original, with Måneskin’s Damiano David taking on co-lead vocals with Parton.
“Jolene” appears on the deluxe edition of Rockstar, which also features guest features from Sting, Steve Perry, Joan Jett, Mick Fleetwood, Pat Benatar, Brandi Carlile, and many, many more. See a preview clip of Måneskin’s take on “Jolene” below.

Rockstar, the star-studded rock’n’roll album by our November cover star, Dolly Parton, has arrived. Stream it below.
Inspired by her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, Rockstar is the 49th full-length release from Parton, and features a variety of new originals and classic rock covers, as well as a heap of guest appearances by artists like Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Ringo Starr, Miley Cyrus, Chris Stapleton, Debbie Harry, Nikki Sixx, and many more.
Speaking with Paramore’s Hayley Williams for Consequence’s most recent cover story, Parton explained that when she found out she was voted into the Rock Hall, she “didn’t feel like [she’d] earned it.” To make up for that, she got into the studio and cut a proper rock album, without cutting any corners. “That was important to me: not to half-ass do a record that’s a country girl singing some rock,...

Dolly Parton is arguably the most beloved living American. How many people are alive today because Dolly told them to get the Covid vaccine back in early 2021? Of course, she’s a paragon of country music, but her reach goes far beyond Nashville, from the disco pop of her working-woman masterpiece “9 to 5” to the soft-rock bliss of her classic Kenny Rogers duet “Islands in the Stream.” And the crossover love has been reflected back; one of the most popular cover songs of all time is Whitney Houston’s...

The concept behind Dolly Parton’s 49th studio album, Rockstar, was born out of the singer’s 2022 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which she was initially hesitant to accept due to her self-identification as, first and foremost, a country music artist. “I’m a rock star now!” Parton joked at the time, and in an ironic twist, proceeded to record an album of rock songs with a host of musical guests from the genre.
Spanning more than two hours, Rockstar comprises nine original tracks and 21 cover songs of rock classics like “Long As I Can See the Light,” featuring Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty, and “Let It Be” with Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. The album also finds Parton putting her stamp on more contemporary pop fare like “Wrecking Ball,” originally performed by her goddaughter Miley Cyrus (who’s also featured on the track). Elsewhere,...

Led Zeppelin IV is no doubt one of the greatest rock albums of all time. But what has been in doubt since Led Zeppelin released the LP exactly 52 years ago today has been the identity of the man on the cover — until now.
As reported by The Guardian, new research has identified the bearded man with a walking stick and a bundle of twigs on his back as a Victorian-era Wiltshire thatcher named Lot Long (also known as Lot Longyear). The discovery was made by Brian Edwards, a visiting research fellow at the University of the West of England.
Edwards stumbled upon the original black & white photo while researching an exhibition he curated with Wiltshire Museum in 2021.
“Led Zeppelin created the soundtrack that has accompanied me since my teenage years, so I really hope the discovery of this Victorian photograph pleases and entertains Robert [Plant], Jimmy [Page] and John Paul [Jones],” Edwards said.

Robert Plant hadn’t performed the Led Zeppelin classic “Stairway to Heaven” in 16 years until this past Saturday (October 21st) at a cancer charity benefit concert organized by Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor.
It turns out that Plant, who had essentially forgone the iconic tune in recent years, apparently was motivated to perform the song after a donor made a significant six-figure bid for the rock icon to sing “Stairway” in particular.
Guitarist Kenwyn House (formerly of UK rock act Reef) revealed the tidbit in an interview with Led Zeppelin News. House performed alongside Plant at the benefit and recalled the sensation of rehearsing the song alongside the legendary rock singer.
“It was a combination between über excitement and terrifying,” said House, who was approached to play at the benefit on short notice. “I literally only had four days to learn everything.”

Perhaps inspired by Dave Grohl’s own recent interpretation, Robert Plant dusted off Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” for the first time in in 16 years during a charity concert in the UK on Saturday night.
Plant’s performance came as part of “An Evening With Andy Taylor And Special Guests,” a charity concert organized by former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor benefiting the Cancer Awareness Trust. (Taylor was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2018.)

Despite feeling like the old guy from the cover of Led Zeppelin IV, Plant is still going strong. He most recently toured with collaborator Alison Krauss in support of their 2022 album, Raise the Roof.

It's not quite right to call Akio Sakurai an impersonator. "Inhabiter" is more apt. And as shown in Peter Michael Dowd's documentary Mr. Jimmy, which takes its title from Sakurai's onstage moniker, he's certainly worked hard to get to that point.
