The superhero movie had a solid-enough debut at the box office, but couldn’t maintain the same momentum across the next few weeks. It remains among the lowest-grossing films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s history, but was able to pass the all-important $400 million mark globally some days ago. It’s mainly for optics, but anything less than $400 million for a film this size is considered disappointing. Directed by Julius Onah, Brave New World passed what will likely be its final milestone this week, as it prepares to land on digital soon.

With $199 million domestically so far, the movie will probably pass the $200 million mark by the end of its run. It will, however, remain the second-lowest-grossing Captain America movie ever, behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.

David Oyelowo is still determined to take to the skies in The Return of the Rocketeer, a sequel to the 1991 cult classic The Rocketeer. Hayley Atwell established herself as a fan favourite in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, leaving Marvel Studios no choice but to bring her back into the fold. 

That started with a fun "One-Shot" short and, following an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cameo, Marvel Television launched the Agent Carter TV series (the only one of their shows that Marvel Studios executives were actively involved with).

Years later, Peggy was made the face of Marvel Animation's What If...? as a Variant of the character who took the Super Soldier Serum and became "Captain Carter." She also struck a chord with fans, so her live-action debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was cause for celebration. Until it wasn't. 

She died in short order and, confusingly, the Captain Carter who died at the Scarlet Witch's hands was another very similar Variant and, ultimately, a waste of that long-awaited debut.

Captain America: Brave New World is slowly achieving new milestones at the worldwide box office. It has crossed the global haul of one of the MCU’s controversial movies, Eternals. The film is controversial because it did not earn as much as other films and was also not met with positive reviews. Anthony Mackie’s film is trying its best not to become one of the five lowest-grossing MCU films.

Eternals was released in 2021 and featured a grand cast of the top Hollywood stars. It featured Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. The MCU movie featured the immortal beings who came out of hiding after thousands of years to protect Earth from their ancient counterparts, the Deviants.

Marvel Studios' next big ensemble film, Thunderbolts*, is just over a month away, and anticipation is only continuing to build. Besides James Gunn's trilogy-capper Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there hasn't been much in the way of big team-ups or event films that have worked for the studio since Avengers: Endgame. Chloé Zhao's Eternals didn't find the success it was looking for, and Avengers: Doomsday isn't due until May 2026. Thankfully, Thunderbolts* is nearly here, and we now have a reveal of the runtime that can give fans an idea of what to expect in the unconventional team-up movie.

At 11 a.m. this morning, the Marvel Studios social media accounts started live-streaming a video they labeled as an all-caps Announcement. The video showed a soundstage where, one by one, chairs reserved for actors were revealed, with a new chair coming into view every 10 minutes or so. As it turns out, this was a very long and slow way of revealing the star-studded cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which is now heading into production and aiming for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release.

The first chair belonged to Chris Hemsworth, who has played Thor, the God of Thunder, in Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. The second chair was reserved for Vanessa Kirby, who plays Susan Storm (a.k.a. Invisible Woman) in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will be reaching theatres on July 25th.

In total, Captain America: Brave New World grossed $400.8 million worldwide, with over $190 million from the domestic market. The domestic gross alone covered its investment, which came with a price tag of $180 million. However, Captain America 4 is still fighting for profit.

It's been reported that Brave New World needs to make 425 million at the box office to break even and not cost Marvel money. If it ends up hitting that 425 million benchmark, it will be very close. As it's been in theaters for nearly a month and a half, it's expected to leave theaters entirely soon. Showtime availability is already becoming quite limited, so there's a good chance it won't break even.

The $400 million milestone is often seen as the threshold for films of this size to be counted as hits.
