C.K. consulted with Norman Lear during pre-production because the look of the series is based on Lear's sitcoms from the 1970's. Lear told C.K. that he wanted his sitcoms videotaped because it gave the shows a sense of immediacy.
Louis' apartment has a window in the kitchen looking out to a building in the distance, but in the hallway there is a door to another apartment (straight across from Walter and Ellen's apartment), which would be right behind where Louis' window is.
