Moderately entertaining if increasingly juvenile family film about a gang of misfit teens with "ultra powers" (minor stuff one sees thru things, one jumps real high, one can sometimes tell the future - but each with a physical drawback that manifests itself when they use those powers) who join up with a teenage girl who speaks with bugs. The film features plenty of CGI effectswork to bring the insects (initially a cute beetle whom the bug-speaking girl befriends, voiced by Jan Lamb; eventually a whole army of insects who threaten war upon humanity) to life, The actress who plays that girl (Isabella Leong) is very expressive and very pretty; but guy who plays her beau is pretty dull. "Twins" Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung (THE TWINS EFFECT, HOUSE OF FURY, etc) appear in small roles as well. The storyline exists simply to carry forward the film's entertainment - which includes a couple of interludes where the characters (and the bugs) suddenly break into song - and the film never does anything more with the concept beyond its simplistic framework.The film will probably be considered pretty inane for American audiences, it's style and sense of humor is far less sophisticated but does carry a charm of its own.

Because the writer and the director have a lot of interesting idea but don't know how to arrange them to become a good "movie with plot", its trying to be a children movie but its totally not. So it just become a movie with a lot of wasted story. No character's development, no suspense, no twist, no everything. I call it a good bad movie because its just a simple movie. So it doesn't look so bad. Just kind of stupid. You know, a talking-bug, a girl who can talk with bug, a group of teenager with supernatural power, 70 years old lady who looks like 20 played by Gillian Chung, an untouchable man with his weird father who knows everything. A lot of "interesting" idea but just left unexplained. Totally messed up but it can be enjoyable if you stop your brain from thinking for a while.

This movie was a lot of fun. The actors were very high energy and the special effects were pretty convincing. At least some of the inspiration must have come from "A Bug's Life", but the animation was well blended in with the live action. This film seemed quite original in it's particular blend of teenage romance, comedy and action. One slight drawback was the subtitles. Although the subtitling was better than many of the flicks coming from the Long Shong Group, there were still several instances where the lines disappeared from the screen too quickly. Grammar and spelling also could have been improved in a few places. Another minor irritant were the credits at both the beginning and end, which were too small and seemed fuzzy.

garyts8 April 2006I'm sure this film will get under rated. I wish it had come out when I was in my teens. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Giggly teen romance, slapstick comedy, just plain good humour, even people with super powers. Don't expect Superman or Ultra Man though. Even though I don't understand Cantonese, it has subtitles that do not get in the way. It is a lot like a Disney movie, just plain enjoyable to watch regardless of your age or gender. I was surprised to find that the main star is a canto pop star also. Isabella Leung. I'll have to look into that. The translation does leave a bit to be desired whenever they are talking about romance. I may be wrong, but I am sure given the context of the moment they had meant to say "Moon is in love", but the translation was "She is in heat". Totally different meaning in English and I have no idea what the meaning is in Cantonese
